Pass Mountain + Dinner

Pass Mountain Loop Trail at Usery Mountain Park is 7.5 miles long with variations in elevation change.  Due to the length and over 500 ft of elevation gain I am calling this an average to moderate hike (Hiking Difficulty Descriptions).  We will start at the Meridian Trailhead (see directional map below) and take the loop counter-clockwise (which has the steepest ascent).

We will start the hike no later than 2:10pm.  Expect the hike to take 3-3.5 hours.  Bring 2 liters of water and snacks.  There are no bathrooms or water at the non-improved trailhead but we will stop on the way back when we pass the bathrooms at the Wind Cave Trail trailhead.

After the hike you have the option of joining us for dinner (but of course you pay for what you order).  I will put it up for a vote (please answer the question): Tia Rosa's or the Monastery

To get to the Meridian Trailhead (which is free) from N. Ellsworth Road and E. Brown drive east on Brown until you get to Meridian, then drive north (left) on Meridian until you get to the dirt trailhead.

The clouds and cool breeze were definitely a bonus! This was a really nice hike when you don't get lost and have to trail blaze up a steep hill.

A great hike! It was nice that the clouds came out and there was a cool breeze. It was fun to eat the native plants.

We headed north, but the trail splits too many ways and you never would have found us. I hope you had a great hike!

I only got one response to my email so I hope people don't flake out Saturday afternoon because it is too hot. If you do flake out for that reason just don't tell me!

Brian and I hiked in the morning at 73 degrees and that sun made it seem so much hotter. But we had no problem. Later that day they rescued 3 people for heat related illness. I hike in the 90's so I am fine - just not sure about everyone else.

Ok so how fast do you all go I have not hiked much this year.

The hardest part for you would be the first part up to the saddle. I don't go so fast I run up the trail but I don't go really slow either. You know your capabilities and I don't. You say this year but this year is only 1.5 months.

I have e-mailed the attendees about maybe changing this to a morning hike due to the unseasonably warm temperatures.

Once we pick a place I will post dinner as a separate event.
