Great ideas from obviously, very experienced people. Incredibly timely. I now feel well armed for the task at hand: educating a client on how to use their new WordPress site.

Thank you, Sallie Goetsch for organizing this event, Anca Mosoiu for providing the TechLiminal meeting space, and Diana Thompson for the keynote presentation. You have a passion to run an excellent meetup that showed me how much I have to learn about WordPress to improve my 3 WP sites.

We meet from 1-3 PM, and the main program usually starts between 1:30 and 2:00, after we've had time for introductions and questions.

Hi Drew Poland, have you tried the meeting/collaboration tool gotomeeting? It's an online meeting tool, includes voice, desktop, or app window sharing. Last time I looked it was a 45. a month subscription. Worth it if you have frequent meetings. Otherwise, there's lower tier similar tools.

How long does this plan to run? I have somewhere to be at 3:00 in Fremont, but definitely want to attend. I've found the best way is for me to just sit down and go through it with them, but occasionally I get a client I'm not near and this presents a whole new issue of trying to help them learn it.

I've found it advantageous to set realistic expectations as to ease of use, maintenance, and add-ons prior to development/beta. Nice point to do a hands-on assessment of the client's tech capabilities also. Design, development and documentation can then follow along a corresponding path. I can present briefly on this approach -- just let me know if you want to fit it in.

Thanks, Anca. That will help. And someone...Bob? Had mentioned doing some training. I'll put the request out on the e-mail list. I've done a bit of one-on-one training with mixed effectiveness and would be interested to hear about anyone who has created an effective process.

I can present a couple of approaches that Tech Liminal takes.

I have done one to one training for basic wordpress sites. I would like to see Diana's approach, as it looks like she has more experience and a systematic way of presenting her information.

We need people to present at this. Who has done client training and can provide examples? Or we could make it more of an open discussion forum.

  • Anca changed the location to TechLiminal

Diana, are you willing to be the main speaker for this meetup? Sounds like you have a lot of experience in this area, though we might want to recruit a panel of folks who have done different things, and have discussion more than presentation after people show a few samples.

Intrested in learning about teaching Wordpress but also would like to hear if anyone has thoughts on teaching blogging in general.

  • Diana T.

I've done in-person, one-on-one training and written a user's guide. I like the idea of having multiple presenters covering different facets and media.

I have tried a number of things on this topic, and would be very interested in sharing (and learning) from others as well.
