Setting up Google Analytics in WordPress

Google Analytics has been around forever, but Google keeps adding new features. Learn how to make your WordPress site communicate with Analytics and how to track more than just how many people have visited your site. Analytics now tracks events like downloads and purchases as well as demographic and behavioral detail..

We'll have three or four short (15-20 - minutes) from various experts in our group.  If you'd like to present, please email [masked] with a brief description of your talk.  So far we have:

Google Analytics Plugins for WordPress: What's the Difference? (Presenter TBA) Some themes come with a place to paste your Google Analytics tracking code, but there are also plenty of plugins, and some of them display your analytics in your WordPress dashboard. Is it better to put your tracking code in your theme, or a plugin? Which plugins are best, and why?

WordPress SEO by Yoast (Anca):  How to set up, configure, and use this  awesome plugin to improve your website's findability.

Goal-setting in Google Analytics (Katherine): Get beyond measuring pageviews. Learn how to set up Google to tell you when people clicked, purchased, or met some other trackable goal on your site.

Hi everyone! Just a quick promo for those of you who missed this event - I'm offering another Google Analytics workshop on Thursday June 5th, 1-3 PM - right now it's only $30 if you register by this Thursday. If you did attend this workshop, we'll talk more about your site's specific goals - there will only be 7 attendees so we'll be able to get much deeper into individual sites.

    Katherine

It's hard to say what what I enjoyed most: the information, Tech Liminal or the presentation?! Katherine and Anca, Sallie, each clearly have immense knowledge. Their delivery was very engaging. They each had such a command of the content that it made the atmosphere comfortable and energetic. Really grateful for the experience.

Lots of material to get through--Analytics is a huge topic, and it's important to make a start. Good coverage of the options for linking Analytics to WordPress. Thanks to Katherine and Anca.

I'm wondering if anyone has experience with bloggers insurance. I'm in the planning stages of creating a video/podcast blog and I'm looking for references for a reputable insurance company. Thanks !

Sallie, it is liability insurance to cover legal expenses. Bloggers are, after all, subject to the same kinds of lawsuits like those filed against other media companies such as TV stations, etc. Just wondering if anyone has ever dealt with the issue.

That takes me way back...to about 2005. I would recommend reading the Podcasting Legal Guide (http://wiki.creativec...) and talking to your regular insurance broker. The insurance will almost certainly be cheaper bundled with your regular biz liability policy. Ask for a quote on "media liability insurance."
