Re: [wordpress-195] Suggestions for places to host a wordpress site?

Yeah, it just doesn't make any sense that they don't have a backup of your files somewhere. That would mean they had a massive failure of some kind. But haven't heard of it.

Did you try the Twitter approach yet? It usually works (to get a more satisfactory response) because of the instant, visible bad publicity it means for a company.

I also find it really hard to believe that they a) don't have your files somewhere and b) won't restore them.  I would also keep making noise until you get satisfaction....

Seems like everyone likes it.  I use “Automatic WordPress Backup” and backup to Amazon S3.  I don’t believe they show compatibility through 3.5.1 but it works for me on many sites.

I still can’t believe that DreamHost can’t restore your files.  They have to be backing up their servers.  I would start shouting on Twitter and Facebook and ask for an escalation.

Page.ly is the other managed hosting that is brought up.  And I know there is a third but forget who they are.

I use a VPS, Knownhost, and love their support.  It’s a bit more expensive and you do want to be a little more technical.

Cheers,

Jeff

I am entertaining paying for this:
http://ithemes.com/purchase/backupbuddy/

which does both.  Does anyone have experience with it?

Thanks!

Just to remind anyone using a self-hosted option,
make sure to back up both 1. your database, and
2. all your other content such as images.

This bears repeating:

1. Backup database,
2. Backup everything else.
