Wordpress as a graphic design portfolio

Hi all. I'm new to this meetup group, and I wasn't able to make the first meetup the other day, (GRRR)! I wanted to be there. I hope to meet you all in February. That being said, I 'm a graphic designer (primarily print) who is aiming to expand my skills into wordpress development and web design. Back when Dreamweaver was new and simply WYSIWYG and hyperlinks SANS CSS, I was known to make some graphically delicious and easy-to-navigate SIMPLE sites. Today, the game has changed and I need to change with it.

My primary goal is to build a very sexy portfolio on Wordpress that can be my ever-growing-multi-talented- portfolio and blog. Here are current samples of my work: www.visualcv.com/jenslusser and the portfolio on jensluss.elance.com. I need a place to display my many creative skills including voiceover, radio production, video editing/filming, stand-up comedy, print design, (eventually web), writing...

My confidence in creating fabulous graphics is HIGH. My understanding of how themes are created using Header, Body and Footer templates with an external CSS file is slowly inching toward competence. In the meantime, can someone help me create a basic and clean portfolio site at www.jenslusser.com? Any suggestions are helpful.

The following are some super sexy portfolios that I like the structure of. My graphic style is in development now:

Hi, Jen.

The first two sites you point to are actually WordPress themes. I've collected some links to WP portfolio themes at http://delicious.com/authorizer/wordpress+portfolio. These might be a place to start. I chose Modularity Lite for my mother's photography site and just tweaked the settings a bit; it was easier than creating something from scratch. But when a client wanted her WP portfolio site to match her previous HTML site, I had to make a custom theme. (I'll be listing the specific plugins etc soon on WordPressAsylum.com.)
