Eastern Iowa Preparedness and Homesteading Pages

This meetup group is for members who want to get together and have fun while preparing themselves and their children to live in an uncertain world. Things are happening very much as I expected them to. The only major difference is that they are happening at a rate of about 10 years faster than I predicted.

People seem to have very short memories and depend too much on their government and other external forces to come to their aid in the event of a personal crises or disaster.

I am the Organizer of this site. As such, I would like to share a little with all of you my views with an email I just sent out to someone who just joined. I hope you will find it informative and what you are looking for. I also welcome everyone else's views and ideas.

I have modified the email to include more than the original would allow. Please be patient as I familiarize myself with this new format.

Dear Fellow Preppers,

Let me start by saying that I never really cared for the name 'Prepper'. It conjured up visions of people fearful of things I felt they heard of that instilled fear into them... irrational fears from my point of view. I have always felt that being prepared was much like becoming your own insurance company. If you were to slip and fall breaking bones or injure yourself from some other form of accident or suddenly discover you had a long term illness or disease, how would you provide for yourself and for your family? Social Security Disability can take as long as 3-4 years. Do you have enough money set aside to pay your rent/mortgage, utilities, groceries and household goods? Most people don't.

This whole idea of being prepared has evolved over the years just as I had predicted from my watching and studying economics, government spending, social and financial trends. I have a very good record of accuracy and my fellow financial bell ringers and myself have watched as the world as grown increasingly difficult to live in. The freedoms, the job opportunities have been swallowed up over time by greed and gross mismanagement of our nations resources. We have borrowed our way into trillions of dollars worth of debt.

Lets face it... our country is in a great deal of trouble to which there seems to be no easy way to fix it in our lifetime. Frankly, while I believe there are solutions that could and would work, I do not believe our government or our fellow Americans are willing to make the sacrifices needed to restore us to our former standing as a nation of opportunities where dreams can come true.

The rich have gotten richer. The middle class is comprised of far too many people who have to work two to three times harder to have half of what their parents had. This has led to a rise in dysfunctional families living in homes they cannot afford, buying things they cannot afford as the idea of saving has become more of a "Eat... drink... and be merry... for tomorrow we die." type of mentality. This new generation does not understand the how dramatically different times are because this is all they have known.

I do not pretend this will all be fixed. It will not. Freedoms are being lost slowly over time. Corruption and greed seems to be dictating the future of the world as we knew it. We are growing further and further behind and deeper and deeper into debt... individually and as a nation. Those countries that longed to be like us are now suffering from following in our footsteps.

It is my goal here at Iowa Preppers to arm you with knowledge and information to protect you and your loved ones without sounding like a group of ignorant conspiracy theorists or radical gun toting bullies. I do not adhere to the fear mongering that is often used to get people to invest in things they do not need for scenarios that are not likely to happen.

If you have questions or would like more information, please feel free to email me and set up a phone appointment. There is no charge for this. If you are more private people and would like to meet privately with myself and your family and some of your friends, please feel free to schedule that as well. There is no charge for either of these options at this time as long as you live within 10 minutes of downtown Cedar Rapids. If you are on Services (Disability, food stamps, I can answer most of your questions by phone or email.

I feel it is critically important for people to start coming together as groups in the very likely event something happens in your personal lives that leaves you in a very stressful situation... or worse, the economy continues its instability.

Feel to give me a call at (319) 550-2005 or shoot me an email at (Put "Iowa Preppers" in the subject line so I don't lose you in my spam folder). But please realize that I have more people than time to help them all. The more people you can have at your home with questions and concerns emailed to me in advance... the better prepared I will be to help you.

Let me know what you are looking for. I may not have all the answers... but I know where to find most anything including the best deals on most things. I have no doubt there are people here who understand the value of being prepared and have the skills paired up with desire to help others who are just starting out.

There seems to be less and less time left and the government has the means to keep track of those of us who are buying up year supplies of food storage that has the long term storage capabilities. They watch for people who buy long term food storage, pay in cash, purchase properties that have areas to grow food and hunt deer and other animals. Many of the criteria for people who live prepared ('prepare") lifestyles are being viewed as terrorists.

If you are looking to hook up with a group in the event there is an economic collapse or some other less likely event, I have started organizing people who want alternatives to million dollar bunker apartments in missile silos or $100,000+ personal mini bunkers.

There are options for free as well as other options for as little as $5,000 per person to co-op with a group by sharing the cost of a piece of land large enough to grow food on and have the protection of a group who is willing to build earth sheltered homes, underground shipping container homes, existing buildings and other options for shelter and living off the grid.

If you have a highly specialized skill such as a degree in medicine (Medical Doctor/surgeon opposed to Nursing or Paramedic skills), licensed mechanics with farm equipment/machinery skills, alternative energy mechanics, specialized food growing/production skills, licensed contractors,etc... There are a few (very few) groups who might take you in with little or no investment provided you can provide a minimum of one year long term (20-30 year shelf life) dehydrated food storage for yourself as well as a continued ongoing storage for yourself that would provide a minimum 2,000 calorie a day diet. (ask for opinions on the best food storage programs)
The best options for food storage we have found have been through L.D.S. sites such as It is important you read the weight of the food storage package you are purchasing as well as the calories provided on a daily basis. Many food storage programs are selling year supplies with 1200 calories or less per day. You will need to consume more calories in a situation where you will be working hard daily to provide for your needs as well as the needs of your family.

For those who are concerned about having enough food in the event of a personal crises or an economic collapse, look for your your super specials at your local grocery store and start buying as much as you can of items you will eat. Hyvee offers some great 1, 2 and 3 day specials on a regular basis.

We are always searching for and finding viable options for serious preppers who are tolerant of others, hard working, not fanatical in their thinking (especially religious and survivalist radicals). We try and buy in volume as groups to achieve the best deals for our investments.

There are many advantages to belonging to a group. There is safety in numbers, better security, less duplication in purchases such as water treatment/filtration, solar and wind power options, construction costs, vehicle needs (farm equipment for food plots, community vehicles and other equipment), community planting, harvesting, canning, drying, building, etc. People in our groups enjoy sharing what they know. These are good people who understand how comforting it is to plan ahead. These are people who enjoy each others company, sharing what they know and socializing with like-minded people.

We are all unique as human beings. But we can share our lives, our skills, our love for security, comfort and the skills that will be much sought after as groceries continue to skyrocket along with fuel sources, our basic needs and medical costs while wages are growing smaller and smaller.

While there are many groups of people with as many ideas about how prepping should be done... I take a very 'middle of the road' common sense approach. We are friendly, neighborly people. We keep our religious beliefs or lack of them to ourselves and avoid political/religious conversations that can be offensive to others. We welcome all tolerant people from all walks of life.
We DO want to distance ourselves from racism, intolerance... including religious fanatics, gun toting survivalists, opportunists, scam/con artists and other ill intentioned groups and individuals.

We do believe in being armed for protection against would be thieves and those who would seek to do bodily harm thinking all they have to do is have the fire power to take from those who have worked hard to prepare and store for their own safety and peace of mind.

Being armed is not just about having guns and other weapons. Being armed also includes arming yourself with a positive and prepared mind set, a sense of humor... a compassionate heart.

There are many diverse options to fit most anyone's wants and needs. Just find the ones you feel the most comfortable with.

Let me know what you are looking for and what your situation is. I have helped people who have unlimited incomes as well as those who are living on Social Security or trying to start a food storage program while living on food stamps. Anyone and everyone can start. It is the commitment level we are most concerned about... along with integrity, ambition, positive mind set and the ability to make hard decisions should the time ever call for it.

Please do not use this site to promote products without clearing it through me as I am determined to make sure people get this best prices for their money. I will not be able to endorse you if you sell inferior products or food storage items that are not the best prices and quality I have already discovered. If someone finds something better for less, I welcome the information.

I look forward to hearing from you.
