Speaker: HDR: What & How? (Mary Austin-Keller)

Have you wanted to learn what HDR is? Tried HDR and gave up when all the sliders made your eyes glaze over?  Then tonight is for you.  This talk with start at the beginning and go into more advanced HDR topics.  If you are new to HDR through intermediate, then you'll find the talk interesting. If you've followed Trey for years, know all about the sliders in Photomatix, create PS layer masks in your sleep, well, you might find the talk all old hat. But you're still welcome to join us. :)

Topics covered:

  • what is HDR
  • how to "take" HDR images (ie what to do with your camera)
  • different processing options from photoshop to HDR software like Photomatix and Nik HDR Efex
  • how to layer multiple images in photoshop to achieve a realistic "HDR" image
  • how to use Photomatix and what sliders you need to play with and which to ignore
  • how to use Nik HDR Efex (if time is short, this might be a quick overview)
  • additional post processing in Lightroom/Aperture/Photoshop
  • some advanced techniques to try at home
  • where to go to learn more and get visual inspiration

Questions? feel free to ask in the comments. Is there something about HDR that's tripped you up? Post it in the comments and I'll try to have an answer for you at the talk.

For me, it's not the photography so much as I do love the sound of a good solid shutter actuation.
