Two Vintners Release Party - Wine & Chili!

What is most important right now is the exciting new wines that we will celebrate next Friday night, November 8th.
As usual, the party will kick off at 6PM and run until 9PM. Cost for non-club members is $10 at the door for a tasting glass and a food ticket. Additional food tickets can be purchased for $5.

Speaking of, Julie and Kristen have declared this party the ‘Chili’ party. This ain’t Hormel. We will have a ‘Build Your Own Chili Bar’ featuring Harvest White Bean and Butternut Squash with Sage for you vegetable lovers and Peppered Bacon and Spicy Black Bean with Beef for the carnivorous crowd. It will be fantastic, to say the least.

What? You want to hear about wine? Ok. First on the docket is the O.G. You’ve never heard of such a wine? Probably because this is the only one in the state of Washington. We have proudly made the most esoteric wine in the land. O.G. was our working title for our first attempt at making orange wine. No citrus fruit was harmed in the making of this vino. Think of it as the opposite of Rose’. Instead of pressing juice off of red grapes to make a pink wine, we fermented Gewurztraminer on the skins long and cold for 6 weeks and then barrel-aged the wine on the lees in neutral French oak for 10 months. This process is more in tune with red wine making and turns the wine a pretty distinct mandarin hue. ‘Orange’ wine is actually an ancient process that is still being made in the Northern Italian region of Friuli and also the country of Georgia. Typically the grape involved is Pinot Grigio, but we chose Gewurztraminer for its elevated floral and citrus notes. This wine will tease your senses for certain. We love it and suspect that you will too. $28.00

Next on the list is a return of a holiday favorite. The always-tasty wine that drives everyone nuts because we won’t tell you what it is! Yep, the 2011 Make Haste is here. We will be selling another special-edition holiday label at the party with our Angry French Snowman and his Cantankerous Hound. Only 70 cases were made and only 15 with the limited label. This wine is always gone by the New Year, so don’t miss out. We will say that this vintage has taken a slightly more serious turn. Hint: Think Rhone! $20.00

Speaking of Cantankerous Hounds…the 2011 Lola is ready to go! For the first time, the Lola, which is always a blend of Cabernet and Syrah, is Syrah dominant. We truly feel that this vintage is the best ever. 2011 was a cool vintage, which was great for Syrah and it really shines here. The blend is 60% Syrah from Klipsun Vineyard and 40% Cabernet from Kiona Vineyard. This marks the second vintage of this wine (2010 being the first) to be from the Red Mountain AVA. Spicy and lush, expect this to go quite well with the bacon chili. $27.00

Last, but certainly not least, is the return of our Pepper Bridge Vineyard Merlot. 2010, like 2011, was a cool vintage. Cool vintages favor early-ripening grapes like Syrah and Merlot because the flavor progression is slow and steady. Those of you familiar with our Merlot know that it is not for the faint of heart. Our Merlot is bold and delicious and drinks like a Cabernet. Merlot in Washington State is a beautiful thing. I know that a few of you reading this are already pouting because you think that Merlot sucks. Well, put your lip back in and try it. You will be proven wrong. The 2010 received 92 points from Wine Spectator and was gone in a flash. At only 150 cases, the 2011 won’t exactly be around for long. $32.00
