Cycle the toe path around Loch Katrine.

This is a ride alone the path around the loch on a nice day its canbe a fantastic ride, nice and easy mostly level and fine for any type of bike, so all you with a bike drag them out the sheds and get cycling, its great fun great exercise and if you've not cycled for years, we don't care because most of us haven't either so we're all wobbly together

Afterwards we'll stop for some lunch and a drink, thats still a work in progress so any ideas to where wouldbe welcome, I was thinking The Wee Blether but it is a bit of a drive from Loch Katrine, but I'm open to ideas.

If you wish to have a go there is bike hike available at Loch Katrine its advisable to book:http://www.katrinewheelz.co.uk/ so even if I run out of my few spare bike please ask if you need one there is an option to join us.

The Loch Katrine lochside route is a private road with only a few residents' motor vehicles allowed. Tarmac surface all the way - easy and level at first near the Trossachs Pier end but one or two steep sections further west will force less fit cyclists to get off and shove for a while. Beware steep downhill sections as there are occasional cars and some corners have restricted visibility

Excellent views all the way with one or two great picnic spots. Visit the Clan MacGregor burial ground on an island accessed by a causeway near the west end of the loch

Hi Alan. Thanks for getting in touch about giving me a lift to this event. Unfortunately I had to change my RSVP earlier in the week; something cropped up at the last minute. I would have contacted you directly, but had lost track of who had offered me a lift. Sorry for this late notice. I really appreciate your very kind offer of a lift. Maybe next time! Hope you all have a great day. Audrey

    Hi all.
A few people have expressed an interest in doing part of the Lock Katrine route as a walk.
Alan has asked if I will host. So what I propose is that we will set off in the opposite direction and walk for about an hour or so, stop for a quick break and return by the same route.
This will hopefully mean that we will finish around the same time as the cyclist.
Let us know what you think.
    Scott

Hi that sounds okay so long as some of the cyclist go at an easy pase. I've not been on my bike for a couple of years!!

      April 6, 2013

  • Mhairi M.

I definitely have space in the car for passengers...taking extra bikes is a 'maybe' unless someone has a better rack than the one I have. Leaving from Helensburgh, so could pick up Helensburgh Station or Balloch Station if anyone wants a lift.

    April 5, 2013

  • caroline

Hi after reading comments on the terrain I am a bit worried as I haven't cycled for a few years and don't think I'm fit enough to do up hills!! Also I don't think my bike rack is complete for getting my bike there!! So would now need a lift..............

    Hi Allan,
Just found your group and joined up. Will you be returning to the pier using the water board road or the Loch Ard road ? I'm thinking about parking up in Aberfoyle and heading over the hill but only if I don't have to do it twice :-)

Hi Brendan, thanks to Lord Beecham, the trains no longer run out towards Loch Katrine. The nearest station is probably Milngavie where you can get a bus to Aberfoyle. Loch Katrine is a few miles (over a steep hill) from Aberfoyle.

Such a pity you have no bike rides nearer to central belt, that is just a little too far for me and it seems public transport with a bike is impossible. I wish I'd seen the Strathclyde park bike ride at the time I would have been there. I'm working on transport for this one if I can.
