This hike will be moderate in level. We will take the trails that go up to the ridge. Our pace will be moderate. We will hike as a group for about 1 1/2 hours.
Shell Ridge is the City of Walnut Creek's largest open space unit, with trails for biking, hiking and riding through oak woodlands and grassland savannah on the lower flanks of Mount Diablo. Shell Ridge gets its name from the marine fossils left behind when the ocean waters that once covered the area receded.
Marshall Drive Entrance - Shell Ridge
From downtown Walnut Creek, drive out Ygnacio Valley Road to Homestead Ave. Turn right on Homestead Ave. and drive approximately 0.2 miles to Marshall Drive. (The first street on your left). Turn left on Marshall Drive and drive 1.15 miles to end of the street at Indian Valley School.
