What do you grow?

When I first arrived we were able to get a house on a 1/2 acre. I started cleaning out beds, building vegtable bed's.I was a very successful gardener in Richmond. Then I noticed my yard was nothing but sand, what a shock,no soil anywhere.I failed the first year.So I sat down and looked around at what was growing in my yard.Plants started popping up every where.Loads of Crinums,Gingers,Hibiscus,Flameflower,Tall mexican petunias, dwarf mexican petunias,Four-o-clocks,Spider plants, purple wandering jew, birds nest snake plants, bromeliads, juicama, azaleas and others. I started digging, potting and watering. It did not take long to realize that I should use what would grow in this habitat. I have a lot of nice beds now that I went with the flow. The vegtables were not as forgiving.I started building raised beds,at last some success.I had sunflowers up to 13 ft. tall.A nice crop of sweet potato's,some cherry tomatoe's,zucinni, yellow squash, several types of tomato's all with limited success.Need soil
