Let's Celebrate the Life and Inspiration of Julia Child

With a Book, Cook and Movie Meetup.

* This a BYOB Event*

Here Is How This Meetup Will Work:

  • Each attendee agrees to post a comment regarding what course/item they will be bringing to the Meetup.  Please note the course type such as appetizer, salad, entree, dessert, other(please specify).  This is necessary to help coordinate the event and avoid too much duplication of menu items.

To help inspire y'all, I would like to suggest glancing at a few of the following links:

Really enjoyed getting to know everyone through group and individual one-on-one conversations. Welcoming gathering.. Excellent hostess who set a simple and easy example which inspires me to hold my own soon. Food was very delicious. Salad's tomatoes' were firm and bread was a fresh sponge that successfully soaked up the delicate dressing. Spinach souffle was divine. Quiche de le mer was perfection with each mouthful. I greatly enjoyed the selection of wines esp. the Rose`. Thanks to the hostess. The crepe Suzette was, as they say, the piece de la resistence. Ohmmeter. Magnifique everyone!

Eilee, Give me an idea of what they might have and I can look in the book. I'm thinking some sort of au gratin or a quick sautee with shallots & butter.

Hi there. I am going to the Waverly farmers' market and could use a suggestion for something that I can make quickly. I can bring two folding chairs or/and two non-folding chairs. The latter need to be picked up. I live near Northern Pkwy and Loch Raven. Robert I have a fairly high skill level and am primarily a baker. i.e. until I read that you were going to make crepe suzettes, I was planning to make Julia's magnificent truffles.

Hi everyone! I'm going to have to bail out. So disappointed, but I have a really sick boy with pneumonia that I have to care for. It's been a long 2 weeks for us.

I will bring panzanella salad - since tomatoes are so good now, thought that would be a nice idea.

Pam, I'm good to go with your pets. As far as the chairs, I might have one or two I could bring. Anyone else have any chair they might be able to bring? Also, does anyone attending this Meetup own the movie?

Hi everyone. My house and kitchen are large enough to host but I only have 5 chairs for my table (one broke) plus I have cats and dogs. I can lock them up but would want everyone to know just in case there are allergies. Any thoughts????

Donna, as far as a side dish please give me some ingredients & skill level requirements and I will look in the book something appropriate.

Pam, it's always nice to be able to take a less expensive cut of meat (like chuck roast) and turn it into gold. If I remember correctly, in the movie Julie makes Boeuf à la bourguignonne or the like. In other words something braised or stew would be your best bet. Are you apposed to using a little pork? Many of her recipes include lardons of bacon! The vegies that can accompany are relatively inexpensive, but it's mainly red wine, bacon, onions & mushrooms. Great with noodles too!

Robert, can you suggest a beef entree of medium skill level that will feed this many. Preferably something that won't make me have to break my piggy bank open to buy all the ingredients :-0

  • Robert

Eris, Give me an idea of an ingredient, what course & level of difficulty and I will make a few suggestions from the book.

    What should I make?

    June 18, 2012

  • Robert

Mary Jo, What would you like to prepare? I have the book and can make some recommendations if I have an idea of what you like to cook. Maybe something Julie prepared in the movie? I have one side dish & a dessert covered.

I will be preparing Soufflé aux épinards and Crêpe Suzette (side-dish & dessert).

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
