Little Sparta Visit

Located in South Lanarkshire, Little Sparta is the garden of the poet and artist Ian Hamilton Finlay [masked]). It features many poem-sculptures and text-objects in the garden as well as representing an incredible feat of garden-design and landscaping. In equal parts witty and deadpan serious, it is quite unlike any other garden in the world.

As Little Sparta is only open from June-September and on limited days and hours, it's always good to schedule in a visit. I suggest we try to meet up at the carpark, then there is a short walk up to the grounds. If anyone requires a lift there, I guess we can try to do some car-sharing, so do shout out if you can drive and have space in your car.

It is £10 to get into the garden which I believe needs to be paid in cash when you arrive.

Hi Jim, nice to meet you today and thanks for calling me a young lady! Sorry I abandoned you but felt it was more a garden for contemplation than for being in a group so maybe it was better we didn't bump into anyone else.

At first site I thought it was just another garden. Then, I started to see more and more as I wandered. It was almost like getting to know Ian as well as his garden. I only met one young lady from the group, everyone else I talked to hadn't heard of the group.

Actually I see other people seem to have been there. No one introduced themselves in the car park. I wandered around randomly speaking to strangers. I may have spoken to you.

Hello everyone, I am really sorry to do this but I will not be able to attend this trip to Little Sparta tomorrow due to another commitment that has cropped up last minute that I just can't get out of and difficulties travelling back in time. I really hate to do this as I was looking forward to it and in this weather the garden will be glorious. I hope you still make it along and enjoy the garden. I will leave the event up so that I you do decide to go you can discuss details with others here. I can't apologise enough for the short notice! Colin

Unfortunately I cannot make this outing although it sounds interesting. I hope to make it to the next event so that I can make my acquaintance with fellow art lovers.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
