An Afternoon of Busking

Melina had this idea some time ago, to do a stint of busking in the University LRT station. It will be fun, and theoretically if you only know two or three songs, you could just keep playing them over and over because everyone is just walking through and won't know the difference. I personally want to bring my sub and fill the place with undertones.

We will split the money equally. Only 4 spots, and let's determine a good day to do it using the comments section below.

This is pretty awesome! Too bad I can't participate.

But I run in the Butterdome every Sunday around 1pm, I will be sure to drop by HUB mall entrance to see y'all perform :)

Hey everyone, I may have to make this for a later date, I just started a new job and I wouldn't mind keeping the December 7th weekend free just in case. Are there any other dates in December that would work for you?

    • Melina

Congratulations on the job, Leigh. The following weekend during the day.

I'm actually out of town then. I'm starting to think we should postpone to next year.

Hey all! Did a little research, this is what I found on the city website: " Note: A business license for busking is not required. However, permission from ETS is required to busk on ETS property. Call[masked] or go to the Customer Service Office."

Yes, I have done some busking, but never any in Edmonton. :P From my experience, I would say: know the area (ie - bylaws and regular buskers - worst experience was snatching someone's spot by accident!) Also, some places have a time rotation per busker/group. Maybe ETS will be able to fill us in on that? That's all I can think of! :P

I will be giving a call to ETS shortly to figure out what rules exist. We may need a backup spot if the regular guy shows up!

Hey Melina, what's your sense of the security at that location? Will they get mad if we play too loud and/or music that's not to their taste?

    November 15, 2013

    • Melina

I can't say I've been down there a whole lot the last year or so but I have seen people with small amps, usually not too loud- and often no mic (unless they're beat boxing). I've never seen security bother anyone and I've heard a diversity of musical styles over the years so I wouldn't worry about the genre of music. I don't know what the bylaws are surrounding busking though.

Saturday Dec 7 would work the best for me.

I am thinking a Friday or Saturday afternoon, my two closest options right now are Friday Nov 22 or Saturday Dec 7.

Hey! This is something I am seriously interested in. (I love busking!) What day/time was everyone thinking?
