6:00-8:00pm Speaker: Evan Kirkwood - Mobile Web Application Development with ASP.NET MVC 4

Abstract:

In this session, I’ll discuss design and development of mobile web applications. I’ll demonstrate how the mobile features in ASP.NET MVC 4 and related technologies (HTML5, CSS3 and JQuery) can be leveraged to build effective user experiences for mobile devices. I’ll also discuss when it makes sense to build for mobile browsers, and when it might be a no-go.

Bio:

Evan is a consulting Software Architect, and Senior Solution Designer for Arter Mobilize, Inc, a developer of mobile software solutions for businesses, organizations and professionals. He has more than 15 years of software systems design and implementation experience, having built numerous desktop browser-based applications and mobile solutions for iPhone, iPad and mobile web browsers.

Content slightly different from what I expected but I agree with Rob. MVC4 and web apps will still have their place along side native apps...especially for public facing agencies like the City and the Provincial departments.

I brought my laptop yesterday with MVC4 freshly installed, and when I tried to build and run a MVC4 project using VS2010, it actually hang! that probably was the biggest disappointment for me.

Thanks Evan, minor unavoidable hiccups but it's obvious you spent a lot of time prepping, learned a lot.

Thanks for the heads up Dave. I won't be banking on connectivity, but fingers crossed people will be able to play along.

    No pressure, eh?

Everyone should bring their smartphones this evening, and be ready for some crowd-sourced work ... er ... audience participation! This is either going to be a big success, or a massive presentation fail. Either way, should be entertaining ;)
