The Edmonton Hiking/Walking Meetup Group Message Board › Winter Solstice and Spring Thoughts!

First of all best wishes for the season. For most that means Merry Christmas and Happy New Year - for others, enjoy the bustle of the season nevertheless!
Tomorrow is the first day of winter and despite the short days we still have lots of events - Waskahegan hikes, indoor events and the like. Not too bad given that we are on winter hiatus!
Of course our hiatus will not last and before you know it we'll be back on the trail. As a gentle reminder, each individual needs to come up with 1 event per season that has something, even vaguely, to do with walking.
Last year we had events ranging from Hikes, Walks, Cave exploration, Elk Island Day Hikes, inner-city walks, IMAX movie and even a piano bar. This year... well, I am looking forward to seeing what you can come up with!
So start thinking about the event that you specifically would like to run and in general would like to participate in. What about dog walks, kid-friendly events, wall climbing, women (or men) only nights and the like. 2008 will be a great walking year - because of the events you'll suggest.
Send one of the organizers your event suggestion and we'll post it for you. Even better, be the first individual to receive the, soon to be coveted, "Spring '08" title!
As well, for those interested in improving their technical skills, check out Boreal Wilderness Institute, Grant MacEwan Mountain Club or even the Edmonton Outdoor Club.
Thanks all for your enthusiasm, have a good rest over the holidays and we'll see you on the trail!
