Tuesday Climbing at the VIRG

You must know how to belay and climb on top rope safely before joining the group. The local climbing gyms offer introductory courses, if you're new to climbing. If you've climbed before, but just need to take your belay test where we're climbing, one of us can be your partner for the test.

Agreed! It was great to see so many enthusiastic people out. Looking forward to seeing you all next week. I'd be all over doing some climbing at the U of A - I need to book a lead check and conquer my fear of the megawall :D

Fantastic turnout! Glad you could all make it. If anyone would like to climb on other days or at other locations, feel free to add a suggested meetup. Also, if you enjoyed the meetup, and haven't paid yet, please pitch in your annual membership fee (you can pay online with PayPal - or bring it to the next meetup). Thanks.

If anyone needs to practice for their belay test (e.g., practice tying in and the basic commands), you are welcome to climb with those of us who have already passed the belay test. Just please be aware the VIRG does not allow us to instruct you on how to belay. If you need that type of instruction, the VIRG offers introductory climbing courses. I'm looking forward to seeing all the new members tonight! Please remember your annual membership dues ($5). Thanks.

Hey, I also would like to join this meet up but haven't done the belaying test yet. Is there anyone who could assist me with that? I already did it a few times but three months ago so I'm not that confident about it and maybe need to practice a little bit. I would be really happy.

So you mean first I should take a course?

If you already know how to belay, you don't need to take the course - you can just take the test for $5. If you're not comfortable using an ATC and belaying someone on a top rope, they offer a course to teach you the basics (Getting Into It)

Hi my name is Cory this will be my first meetup. Anyway, I am confident at belaying and was hoping to do the test so if someone doesn't mind volunteering for that that'd be great. I'll bring the membership dues on Tuesday, thanks.

I'm surprised by the level of growth I've seen since becoming an organizer, it's given me more confidence in my abilities.
