Yes, you read that correctly. Shoes.
One of these two films is about Werner Herzog eating his shoe, something he vowed to do if another person completed a particular film. The other film is about garlic, which is much tastier than a shoe.
"This duet of films is intended to honor the life and work of documentary filmmaker Les Blank, whose films celebrate the music and food of American regional cultures, from polka to the blues, from garlic to tea, and from Dizzy Gillespie to Lightnin’ Hopkins. Blank’s films are highlighted by his obvious affection for the individuals he follows, as well as the music they play and the food they eat. Les Blank passed away in early April. Please enjoy these films as much as we do, and roast some garlic and raise a glass for Les." (from the Metro website below)
The films begin at 7pm. Let's meet in the lobby of the Garneau theatre between 6:30-6:45pm. I'll have a bouquet of artificial flowers with me so that you can find me.
Afterwards, if anyone wants to discuss the films, we can always go out for coffee, but not shoes. :P
