Never Cross The Line
(says the poster)
UK 2012, 89 min, Digital, Directed by: Luis Prieto

Hello! Welcome to my first Edmonton Film Meetup Movie Night on behalf of the Edmonton Film Meetup!

If you liked the movie "Drive" with Ryan Gosling or "Bronson" with Tom Hardy, director Nicolas Winding Refn started it all with the Pusher trilogy. As far as I know, this English language remake by Director Luis Prieto loosely adapts the first of the three original films which you can find at the Edmonton Public Library!

I figure if we meet a bit earlier, we can get decent seats as the shows starts at 9:00 PM

From the Metro Cinema Website:
"As edgy and explosive as Nicolas Winding Refn’s 1996 cult classic, this English language remake tells the story of a week in the life of Frank, a big time drug pusher in London. Frank’s life is a fun-filled roller coaster of a ride that soon spins out of control. Friendships start to vanish and there is no longer room for love within his life, and violence takes over. Danger and chaos are all around and he becomes a man trapped in his own world. Eventually Frank is left with no one to turn to and nowhere to go, becoming a man paralysed with the fear of knowing that there is no way of preventing his inevitable fate. Fast-paced, visually striking, witty and with some of acting’s finest talents, Pusher will have you gripped from beginning to end."

Just have to say that I finally saw the original Pusher last night and encourage anyone who has already seen ththe remake to watch the original. It starts off a little slow but by the time things get into high gear and the camera is chasing the protagonist around, you're wondering how things unspooled so quickly. There are shocking moments and the realness of the week long descent into panic is amazing to watch unfold. I don't think I've ever watched a character sit and think things through with the tension on display in this film. It's a moody piece of cinema and if the remake is anything in relation to this, it might not be everybody's cup of tea. But if it makes for good conversation on, I don't know, issues with anger management and choosing better careers than the dealing of narcotics, then it's a good choice! To all of the people that were kind enough to RSVP that they could not attend, hopefully we can get familiar in the future and thanks again for being part of a great group!

Hi Craig Just checking to see that things are still on for tomorrow. I'll be wearing a metallic blue with red trim North Face jacket....sounds like a set-up for a spy film doesn't it! Maybe we should have a secret password. :-) See you tomorrow.

The MC description doesn't really interest me, but I checked w/ my favourite critic and this actually looks like a gem: three stars. Have a look if you like: Oh, and a Tomato Rating of 81. That's rare.

Thank you, Faye. I decided to just watch it online. It's available (in DVD quality) on several sites. But thank you for the offer.
