Edmonton Screenwriters Meetup

Since this is the first meetup - this will be more of a meet and greet, just a chance to meet other screenwriters and filmmakers in Edmonton and share the writing and story development experience.

Actors and Directors and others in Filmmaking this is _not_ exclusive to screenwriters, but an opportunity to make your voices heard. Ever received a script only to wonder 'who wrote this?' Together we can be much stronger than simply throwing it over the fence and saying "HERE! Now make it happen"

This was another awesome meetup for the Edmonton Screenwriters. We had a few more people this time. Navi told us about his series - think the Office but set in a Warehouse - heck, The Warehouse. Sounds hilarious. I hope that Navi brings script samples for us to enjoy.

We all shared our different approaches to writing, inspiration and filmmaking. Warren's idea was agreed on by all to try our hands on a collaborate project based on a true story. A woman who was jailed for trying to extort money from Wendy's by putting a finger tip into a bowl of Chilli. The challenge is to write it so it takes place in one room and is short enough to be filmed in a couple of hours. Then we hand the script over to the Edmonton Film Meetup! ;)

My friend Alex stopped by the cafe and joined us, and he said afterwards that it was a great time as well. He had no idea that screenwriting was such a complex, fun and engaging process. There you go, even young lawyers can be seduced to the dark side.

It was fun to talk to everyone and learn more about the screen writing process. I asked lots of questions. It was exciting when we started collaborating on an idea for a short film and I'm curious to see how the creative process pans out for it.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
