Nice way to spend a Saturday afternoon so I'm going to the Blues on Whyte Afternoon Jam. A free set of Mississippi blues from Grady Champion at 3:00 PM followed by a few sets by local musicians. I am going to head over to the Blue Chair for dinner at 7:00 and see Bim at 8:00. You need to sign up for Bim separately and pre-pay the Blue Chair. If you want you can continue with the Blues on Whyte and pay six bucks for the 10PM show.
Grady Champion is a young, blues singer and harmonica player who has been compared to Sonny Boy Williamson. His revved-up, soulful vocalizing and the charm and insight he brings to his songwriting in numbers like the campy "My Rooster Is King" and the classic-sounding tale of infidelity "You Got Some Explaining to Do" (co-written by his producer Dennis Walker, who helped Robert Cray reach national fame) mark Grady as an important new talent.
I'm going to be there between 1:30 and 2:00 to save chairs. Big Yellowish Orange Flower will also be there. Some company to save chairs would be nice. I'll be sitting just north of the dance floor.
