Shakespeare in the Park - King Lear

"Edmonton's Shakespeare Festival offers great summer nights, shelter from storms under the amphitheatre tent, and the magic of the Bard as it was meant to be seen: in the beautiful river valley."

So...come to Hawrelak Park for some Shakespearian drama! No one explores the darker side of humanity better than Shakespeare.

"The aging King Lear asks his three daughters to prove their love for him, and two greedily profess overwrought affections. Cordelia, the favourite, humbly responds, but Lear is unimpressed. Banishing her, Lear falls into a web of deception and disappointment, eventually leading to his own howling madness."

Tickets: Tuesday nights are Pay-What-You-Will at the gate. You may want to bring CASH.

Where we'll meet: Pay for your ticket at the box office tent and look for the friendly group huddled around a large sunflower... first, in the queue/waiting line.  Please plan to arrive at 7:30pm. Lord of the Stage and Lady V will arrive around 7:15 pm.

Lovely night in the park. Shakespeare set upon a modern stage under the night sky. What's not to like?!

Greetings LearGoers. Some preparations are in order for our outing to the Park of Hawerluk tomorrow. When in an Elizabethan setting it's quite handy to have one's insult hurling and receiving skills toned and sharp. Please see the Insult Generator table in the event description to see What Master Shakespeare might call you in the heat of 'discussions'. Feel free to post the insult here with a reply. I'll demonstrate...

If that ain't enough...Shakespeare takes to insulting my TG stage name (Initials L.ot.S)...he says to me - Thou Dankish, Hell-Hated Strumpet...Shakespeare you %@#$%*&#!!!

Very big crowd @ this performance. Charmaine scores extra hosting points for steering us to the right for seating...we avoided being blinded by the setting sun. Following the dialogue in this one was tough. The old king going mad...was sad to watch. The plotting and scheming of the younger generation to take the fortunes of their fathers + fight scenes...twas a treat to watch this talented crew of actors!

A gentleman or a scoundrel for that matter shouldn't reveal all his secrets, oui? If i might ask, based on your initials what insult did Shakespeare dispense in your general direction?

Looking forward to more Shakespeare. Thoroughly enjoyed Midsummers Night Dream.

Hi Everyone. Just a quick heads-up that, with all the rain we've been having, the grounds around the tents are pretty muddy and slick. If you plan to walk on the grass and/or patron the tents, a solid pair of shoes or rain boots is recommended. See you all tomorrow. :)

Greetings LearGoers. Nice to see a large group for some Shakespeare in the Park of Hawerluk. If your plans change, please carry on the considerate TG tradition of updating your RSVP to No. This will let your co-host team know who is coming and how many seats to save in the theatre.

    July 15, 2013

    • Steve G.

Let's plan to meet at the box office or in the queue between 7:15-7:30pm. Gates are likely to open at 7:30...so, look for the friendly group with a large sunflower. Those of you with no profile picture or a generic image...it's your responsibility to find the group. Please consider uploading a photo so your co-hosts can spot you wondering in the crowd :-)

Note...the show is a-go rain or shine. We'll be dry under the amphitheatre dome unless it rains sideways. Please dress appropriately... Looking forward to seeing ya'll at the Park of Hawerluk
