Silly Fun with The Big Lebowski

Long weekends are made for silly fun, oui? Was walking by the Garneau a few years back and wandered into a screening of The Big Lebowski and the theatre was almost full - 500 seats. This movie was on the 'very' side of the silly fun.

"When “The Dude” Lebowski (Jeff Bridges), mistaken for a millionaire Lebowski, seeks restitution for his ruined rug and enlists his bowling buddies Walter Sobchak (John Goodman) and Donny (Steve Buscemi) to help get it. This case of mistaken identity gets complicated by extortion, double-crosses, deception, embezzlement, sex, pot, and gallons of White Russians, and it soon seems that everyone from porn empire tycoons to nihilists want something from the Dude. “The Dude abides. I don’t know about you but we still take comfort in that.”

Donnie's funeral was just like my Dad.s except he was in a cardboard box not a coffee can and we were down wind on the family farm he grew up on. It's now part of Nisku Industrial Park as my brother threw his ahes into the wind we like to remember we took a piece of Dad home with us that day. To quote the song "All we are is dust in the wind."

A really great, real-life movie. It reminded me of a lot of my friends and relatives, though the pre-film footage of Nixon brought flashbacks. They should have had subtitles for the Germans ordering at the IHOP.

LebowskiGoers. Just learned they are expecting to sell out the show tonight. Tickets go on sale at 7:45. Then lineup is outside. Doors open at 8:40pm for drinks and mingling. So, meeting at 9pm is likely too late. I'm planning to be at the Theatre at 8:15 to buy a ticket. Will be in line or at Transcend Cafe until doors open. Then in the atrium past the concession stand. Look for the dude in a housecoat tending to a large sunflower. If needed, can be reached at[masked]

Yup, I do believe we will make it, need an afternoon sleep before I can go out. Have a bad habit when the lights go out in a theatre, so do mine, I wake up when the show ends.

    LebowskiGoers. Happy Long Weekend!

Fair warning...likely to be a number of dudes wearing housecoats at the movie on Sunday (Jeff Bridges walks around in a housecoat the entire movie)

50/50 that I'll be wearing a housecoat to the show...not sure if that a draw or a deterrent ;-)

On the plus side, the Metro is licensed and will be serving up a variety of spirits including The Dude's (Jeff Bridges) fav - White Russians.
