Dr. Maya Angelou Live at the Winspear Centre - SOLD OUT

One day only! Maya Angelou is speaking at the Winspear this October as part of the Unique Lives & Experiences lecture series.

"Dr. Maya Angelou is one of the most renowned and influential voices of our time. Hailed as a global renaissance woman, Dr. Angelou is a celebrated poet, memoirist, novelist, educator, dramatist, producer, actress, historian, filmmaker, and civil rights activist."

According to the Winspear's Communications Manager, Dr. Angelou will speak solo for about 60 - 70 minutes. The event may also open with a short musical act, but this is still to be confirmed.

Tickets are no longer available. Event is SOLD OUT.

Please meet at 7pm in the lobby of the Winspear near the front entrance.  I will be wearing a bright yellowy orange sunflower on my coat. Not sure if Guy can make this show -- his schedule is quite full this month!

Miss Vicky was very conscientious about filing out the survey for future speakers. I really hope we get Shirley MacLean. Crazy as heck that they call these women's speakers. Shirley with her alien abductions and out of body stuff, universal appeal.

A real great woman. Wish she could have spoken longer. Don't know why they market these things as women's speakers. Read "I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings".

Hi Roy, I am going to be at Will Call to get my tacket at 10 after 7 pm or so. I'll see you near the pickup window around 7:15. Since it's not a big crowd, I left my sunfluer at home.

I am sad to say that I won't join. I have to go to the States on that day to activate my Canadian permanent residency visa (crazy immigration laws). I need to do it next weekend and leaving on Thursday is cheaper. I feel bad because I am one of the hosts. I am also sad to miss out on this because I am reading one of her books and am really enjoying it, I would love to see her in person.
So sorry! I hope you enjoy it, please let me know what she says.

Is anyone interested in going for munchies and drinks after the lecture? Lazia in City Centre mall is open until midnight Tues-Sat. I work until 6 pm so I expect there will be little or no time to eat beforehand. Please comment or add other suggestions for post-show discussion.

Anyone who wants good seats should get a move on. There were only four left nearer the front of Orchestra Centre.
