Free-Man On The Land

Update! I've changed the day to Wednesday January 16th so we can go to the preview show for only $13!  -Nelson

"A cerebral, lively look into an onerous topic" - VUE Weekly

Azimuth Theatre remounts its exploration of the complicated bundle of principles, tenets, and mantras that comprise the Free-man on the Land philosophy. (See Wikipedia entry about Freemen at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freemen_on_the_land).

Through a playful structure, integrated video design, and live original music by local singer/songwriter Dale Ladouceur, you will be introduced to the theatrical fiction of The Man Commonly Known As Richard Svoboda as he strives to disengage from the system of legal fictions that claim to govern us.

Buy tickets directly from The Roxy box office (12-5 and two hours before show time) at[masked]-2440. They are also available online from the Theatre Network website https://tickets.theatrenetwork.ca/TheatreManager/1/online.

If you would like to come to Eddie Shorts (Just across the Street
from the Roxy) for Dinner before the show I will be there at 5:30 holding a large Orangey Yellow Flower.

The Show starts at 8 pm. Meet at around 7:30 pm inside the
lobby on the left past the main doors. Look for Roy (Big guy 6' 230 lbs shaved head glasses) who will be holding a large orangey yellow flower. Maria is feeling under the weather.

The musis was great; however, the production was not my cup of tea. It seemed scattered and never came to a point that I understood. As I didn't really know what was going on, I had a little nap during the second half. The nap could also be attributed to the great burger I had for supper.

I might be in the minor but I loved the performance. I think they were phenomenal and professional grades. The context was heavy and burns a lot of phosphors to digest them all.

I found out, at the time of arrival, that this was a rehearsal. That is why the ticket price was so low. I really liked these guys production of Apocalypse Prairie. I think parts were left out in rehearsal and they needed more practice resulting in a confusing and uneven performance. I think I saw glimmers of a good show, particularly Dale who played Cricket (the instrument she was playing is called The Stick). I’m not prepared to give up on these guys. Tomorrow I am going to check out future performances and maybe post it as an event, maybe closing night.

Would anyone like to meet for a pre-show drink/dinner across the street at Eddie Shorts?

I don't think you need to make reservations there Roy, it's not usually busy at that time - I'll head over straight from work and save us a table for 6 (just in case)

Roy, I am not going to make the pre-show dinner at Eddie Shorts as I am caught up at work. I will be in the lobby of the theatre at 7:30 pm to meet people. Thanks.

I will be your usher that night! I won't be staying for the show however as I have plans to catch it on opening night.

I'll bring the big orangey yellow flower and am prepared to name it and put it up as a member. Me developing a anthropomorphic character is going to result in something weird, fraught with double meanings and innuendo. Anyone who can help with my desire for strangeness and spelling the name, please come forward now. Think this event provides a theme. Although my original thoughts were more Jah Rastafari, I and I hangin with the weeds etc.

I also have five daisies that need naming. I'll bring those along, too. Since they're daisies, one should probably be called Donald, hey? :P

I went to a couple of events from this group but never was able to find people in the crowds - my loss. Hopefully this time I'll find who is who.

Haha! Not to worry! The lobby at the Roxy isn't all that big, so we should have no troubles finding one another.

I just re-read the description of this show, and noticed that the show makes references to "The Man Commonly Known as Richard Svoboda." In Ukrainian, and possibly in other Slavic languages, the word 'svoboda' means 'freedom.' I smell symbolism!

Thanks Victoria, I checked out the prices. It looks like Thursday is the big opening night with $26 a ticket and $21 for each night after that. Tuesdays tickets are available at the door only.

Wednesday January 16th at $13 is quite the deal. I'll change the date!

Nelson, I was checking for tickets and there is no performance on January 17. Preview nights are Tues Jan 15 & Wed Jan 16. Opening night is Friday January 18. Preview nights are $13 each or Tuesday Jan 22 is $11 (2 for 1 price for everyone). I would prefer Wed Jan 16.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
