  • This location is shown only to members

Step back in time to Chicago, 1931. Al Capone is on trial, and there’s a tense mood at his nightclub “Shooters.” Relentless lawmen, greedy rivals and illegal liquor can only lead to one thing… Murder! Start with a stroll through the pyramids, perhaps a drink at the cash bar, and then enjoy a buffet style dinner as the mystery unfolds. Come in costume, prepare to interrogate suspects and enjoy a night of intrigue.

You must pre-register with the Muttart to attend this event. Space is limited. Reserve your spot beginning October 1st. Call 311 for reservations (or[masked] from outside Edmonton). Cost is $79 plus GST. Buffet Dinner is included.

Website: http://www.edmonton.ca/attractions_recreation/attractions/muttart_conservatory/murder-mystery-at-muttart.aspx

Course Code:[masked] (you need to quote this number to City of Edmonton operator when calling to purchase tickets). Mention you are with the Edmonton Theatre Goers Club so they can add a note to their reservations.

Doors open at 7 pm and dinner is served at 7:30 pm. Tables of 6 are available.

There is a Cash Bar.

Well done everybody! The costumes were amazing! The company was superb, as always! The play was mediocre and food not spectacular, but we had a great time. You guys are the bees knees!

Very entertaining. Got a bit lost in all the clues. Checking the photos, it appears our focus wasn't on sleuthing.

  • Victoria B.

Hello! Please meet in front of the Muttart just before 7 pm tomorrow evening. The doors open at 7 pm, which is when the merriment and sleuthing can begin! The reservation is saved under TheatreGoers for the original table of 6 -- Roy, Linda, Steve, Adhikar, Sophia and moi. @Mary Lou and Judy, at check-in you should inform them that you are with TheatreGoers group, but the reservation is under John Kudryk's name from Edmonton Foodies. You will be at a table nearby. Watch for Roy with his sunflower to zoom in on the posse. If there any last minute questions on Saturday, post a Comment here for our lov-erly co-host Roy to respond or send an email to my blackberry at [masked]. See ya cats at the ring a ding ding...

Just so nobody gets mixed up, it is a large orangey yellow Chrysanthemum. (Since my humour is often misunderstood, this is humour based on being picky about the trivial. It is derived from the old days on usenet when the lack of spelling and grammar checkers would lead to errors, which were pounced on by the self-appointed literacy police, who were then mocked, leading to the phenomena known as a flame war. The good old 80s, usenet, bbs, 600 baud modems… )

@Sophia, D'Lutchi downtown at 11237 Jasper Avenue is a store that sells bridal, prom and Quincineria dresses - and they have accessories! I am going to try them tomorrow for dress gloves. Claires was a bust, unless I wanted the 1980's Madonna look :)

Oh you guys sounds like you are going to have so much fun ... :) Wish we could join you! Hopefully the next one for sure ... we are having to dress up ourselves as we are heading to the Monstrous Baroque Refinery Late Night Party at the AGA (Art Gallery of Alberta) ... Honestly though wish we were heading to the Murder Mystery with you all instead!

Bet the gumshoes will be too focused on finding Chicago typewriters and the stiff in the joint. Probably will forget to bring a camera guy...stop being a wise guy and suit up ;-) (who would a thought growing up on Abbott & Costello + the Bowery Boys - early Sunday morn TV would pay dividend 30 years later!)

Hi fellow TheatreGoers! I just found out 1 of my fellow Foodies members had to cancel. I'd rather fill the seat ($82.95) than have the member pay for somethiing they were unable to use. You can Email me at [masked]. Thanks, John.

For anyone who wants a crash course in vintage fashion, here is a page from Pinterest, which I guess stands for "pin-interests," with lots of pictures of dresses, hats, hairstyles and some men's wear.

Excellent Mary Lou!!! This is going to be such a blast and the more the merrier. So glad you are going to be able to make it ;) So, my calculations have 2 tickets left - one from Christine and one from Jon. Note: this event has assigned seating. Please post or send an email to me if you have tickets with friends and want to join our group so I can send an email to Alex from the Muttart to put us altogether in the same area or same table.

    Cheers!

Victoria's link reminded me to include suspenders. I'm going to use a suit from the early 1990s which is pretty vintage. I noticed a picture from 1931 where the guy is wearing rolled up jeans and a wife beater, tempting.

The Muttart recommends dressing up but I don't think it is mandatory. I plan to dress up and I think Linda does too. Linda is the only person I've spoken to about it. I can’t imagine that Steve and Adhikar won’t dress up. Victoria’s first post give a link to some styles of the era.
@Victoria I’m going to e-mail the two RSVPs that haven’t responded just to make sure we have included everyone with tickets.

    October 31, 2012

  • Sophia C

Are we going to dress up? Let's dress up 30's gangster style! The ladies can wear cocktail dresses, the men gangster suits! Let's do it!

@Victoria When you inform the Mutart who will be at our table, My last name is Eykelbosh.

    October 30, 2012

    • Sophia C

Yeah, they called me. I tried to run down the list of people. But I didn't who had bought tickets and some last names. They said they would call Victoria.

      October 30, 2012

Excellent Sophia!! I have the organizers name. I gave him the list of 5 confirmed attendees and was waiting to see if we got a 6th person -- now we do. It's going to be a blast. I'll send an update to him later this evening when I'm home. @Roy, I had sent an email with Eyk as your last name (per email addy), but then Allan asked if the ticket was for Eykelbosh. LOL.

@Victoria So is it just the five of us; you, me, Steve, Adhikar, and Linda who have said they have bought tickets? If so the others may be out of luck soon.

Thanks, can I assume for you and Adhikar per our conversation last week?

      October 15, 2012

  • Victoria B.

If anyone else wishes to join this event, please note that there are only 24 tickets available as of October 15.

    October 15, 2012

  • Victoria B.

Please send an email to me when you have purchased your ticket. I contacted the Muttart and there are assigned seats. They will try to have us seated at one or two tables once I have provided names of registered attendees. Thanks!

  • Victoria B.

I just called to get my ticket. They have less than 70 seats left for the event. My operator was not as wiling as Roy's was about adding a note on the file. I am going to try back tomorrow during business hours and ask to be transferred to the Muttart. They don't have a public phone number, but 311 will transfer you if you ask.

    October 1, 2012

    • Victoria B.

Note on my ticket confirmation says attendees "will be seated at tables of up to six people."

I called and got my ticket. It seems to be a general line for city events and courses which explains why --you need the course number--. You should also --have your method of payment at hand--. The lady I spoke to didn't know much about Murder Mystery but could add a note identifying me as a member of the Edmonton Theatre Goers Club. --I'd suggest we all ask for a note to be added--. She also noted that I am allergic to shellfish and melons.

I hope who ever does the seating will catch on and nearer to show time I'll do some calling around to make sure they do catch on.
