Two first prize winners of the prestigious Montreal Symphony competition, Jacques Després (piano) and Andrew Wan (violin) unite to play Beethoven's sonatas for violin and piano.
Dr. Després is an University of Alberta Music Professor and coordinator of the Keyboard program. Wan is originally from Edmonton and now lives in Montreal where he is the concertmaster of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra - one of the youngest to hold this position.
Both musicians are graduates of the Juilliard School.
Wan and Després plan to perform all of Beethoven sonatas for violin and piano over three consecutive years. For this first concert in January 2013, they have selected to perform numbers 1, 2, 4 and 8.
Convocation Hall is one of Edmonton’s oldest performance venues, located in the Old Arts Building on the North University of Alberta campus.
Coffee at Earls after if interested.
At the door: $20 adult; $15 seniors; $10 students. I have 5 tickets for $10/each available on my flex-pass (Flex-passes are $60 for 6 tickets (use in any combination), but can only be purchased with cash at the Dept of Music during regular office hours).
Let's meet in the lobby between 7:30-7:45 and enter the concert hall at 7:50. so that we can find seats that aren't too squeaky. I'll hold a red silk flower so that you can find me.
