Hello Fellow TheatreGoers,
I hope this note finds you digesting a great holiday weekend.
As Thanksgiving comes to a close, my "what I'm grateful for" is top of mind. Becoming involved with this club is at the top of my list. It started out pretty simply with the desire to see live performances with other people/not by myself + live the advice in the following quote:
"The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experiences" - Eleanor Roosevelt - First Lady of the United States 1933-1945.
Sometimes you get what you wish for - summer and early autumn packed with many theatre related experiences. Initially, the idea with the Fringe Fest was to see 5 - 10 shows. Attending the First-Time Fringer workshop with 3 volunteer presenters that see 50-75 shows/festival broke open the ceiling of possibilities. Personally, I saw 37 shows at the Fringe...what an experience! Like a B-12 shot or attending a creative retreat. The best-in-show from the festival - saw every one of the 37 shows with 1 to 15 other members of our lovely club. No shows alone...how great is that!
The Journal reported record ticket sales for the Fringe this year. We have a poll on the site to gauge our impact. If you'd like to add your Fringe tix tally to the poll, see the link:
#2 on my "what I'm grateful for" is the spirit of participation that has emerged amongst our merry band of TheatreGoers. Members, new and less new, are coming out to events and pre/post show get-togethers!
The best for last on my gratitude list - a round table of co-organizers formed over the summer months. Your organizing team has co-hosted almost 100 TheatreGoer events since mid-June...yes, that is a huge #...only a team of people can accomplish that! Heartfelt thanks to Adhikar, Beth, Ann McC, Cliff, Julia, Linda, Kim, Nelson, Paul, Roy, Sandy, Sheryl and Victoria for your contributions to making this a really fun club to be a part of.
What's next? Check out the event listings. Have an idea for an event...post an event and/or contact an organizer to get some help. At TheatreGoers, we are big on participation.
