Educelerate will lead this workshop on behalf of Startup Education to help you learn about proven business models in education, immediately apply your knowledge in a hands-on workshop and get feedback that will help you with your own startup.
Startup Education is piloting this bootcamp series, so we're lucky to be among the first cities to hold this workshop (just after Austin in July). We are doubly lucky in that we have managed to rope in Jay Alter, a founding team member of Edline (one of the largest exits in K-12 edtech of all time), as our lead facilitator and speaker.
During this session, we will provide an introduction to the Business Model Canvas and then allow teams to present their own canvas and share on their innovations. We will then close with a discussion led by Christopher Nyren and Jay Alter around the particular challenges in education, including from our Jay's own experience.
Jay's experience in education started just over fifteen years ago: after starting his career in marketing and consulting, Jay took a position in 1999 with Jackson Software to prepare it for sale. In this process, he also helped spin off its K-12 edtech solution Edline. Jay spent nearly 15 years with Edline, including as EVP Operations and CFO, through its eventual sale to Blackboard, where he continued to lead integration and continued direction as Blackboard Engage. Jay has a BA from Stanford and completed Post-Graduate studies at the Victoria University of Wellington and an MBA from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago.
