I've been involved in online teaching for nearly a decade now, and I've been working with data-driven Web applications for longer than that. As a college teacher of history and a programmer with an interest in data storage, analysis and visualization, I see clearly that we have a long way to go before we reach a true synthesis between our ability to gather and act on data and our pedagogical traditions. The same is true for content.
I'm the Director of Blended and Online Learning in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago. I've been a college professor, an administrator, and a software engineer and architect.
