I worked as a school counselor, teacher, curriculum consultant, and school administrator for a decade before going back to school for my Ph.D. My work lies at the nexus of psychology, technology, and education and is based on a belief that the successful application of theories, insights, and methods from the social sciences can result in improved outcomes for many important social and environmental programs and policies. Current projects investigate technology-enabled energy feedback, audience engagement in documentary film, new media models of public communication, the role of film-based NGOs in schools, and transmedia social action campaigns.

I founded and direct the Transformational Media Lab at UC Irvine. We study the role of information and communication technology (ICT) in promoting pro-social behavior; one project focuses on new media and technology-based models of youth engagement.
