Kudos to Helen, Ed and Michael for their heavy lifting in putting together a wonderful program. Delighted that so many came out to the A+B afterwards. We need to do more of that! Loved all the performances. Videos of the couple of highlights that I was able to capture are posted on YouTube on my EAMC playlist:

At rehearsal tonight we discovered multiple issues with the original posted version of Wild Rover so we have now posted the famous version by the Dubliners which should be easy to follow! Remember this is a very informal singalong in the tradition of the Irish pub sing-song.....looking forward to having you all join us, Helen, Ed & Bill!

    March 25, 2014

  • Steven G.

We had a rehearsal tonight of many of the house musicians who will be playing, and thought we'd add as a bonus show closer following Bill O'Neal's sing-along - "American Land" by Bruce Springsteen. We'll do it acoustically with fiddle, guitars, mandolin and penny whistle, but will need EVERYONE singing on it. There are 5 versus - We'll have a different singer for each versus - EVERYONE on the Chorus - ("There's diamonds on the Sidewalk . . .") The lyrics are posted in the Files section at http://files.meetup.com/2556222/American%20Land%20Chords%20from%20Other%20Tracks%20by%20Bruce%20Springsteen.pdf

Here's the song to familiarize yourselves with it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuHIGn-ZXJM

    • Janie H.

You know I heart The Boss big time and I even love this song.... but, I always feel a wee bit of a tug every time I hear American Land as it is so obviously very heavily sampled and/or inspired by Sally Maclennane in terms of the music and then the lyrics are reminiscent of Thousands are Sailing and I feel like Bruce should give a nod to The Pogues for the inspiration. Anyhow, great tune and I will be sure to sing along.

Some suggestions for the sing-a-long segment:
    - Brown Eyed Girl - (What can be more Irish than Van Morrison?)
    - Tura Lura Lural - (He sang this with The Band in The Last Waltz)
    - 7 Drunken Nights

Van is from East Belfast. It's a rare man from that side of town that considers himself Irish. Spent 6 months of my life playing around Belfast... never met a man from that side of the Lagan that fancied himself to be anything other than British. It's Toora Loora, I believe, but not an Irish song either. Seven Nights is a good idea, but not much crowd singing in that one. I think we can come up with some more appropriate sing-song melodies if we try.

      March 13, 2014

  • Jeff F.

Hey fellow EAMCers! I learned yesterday that there are still some open spots left for the upcoming Irish Shindig on 3/28. If you're "on the fence" about whether or not to perform, let me share this with you. I have found EAMC to be a such a fun and safe way to "get out there" and express yourself musically (regardless of your level). It is such a super supportive and friendly group of music lovers, and I strongly encourage you to sign up... You will so thank yourself! Even if you choose not to perform, I hope you'll consider participating as an audience member to show your support for the other musicians. Besides, you'll get to hang out with some very cool people (and I understand that everyone will be getting together for drinks and socializing after the event). Will be totally fun! Hope to see you (and maybe even "hear you") on the 28th!

If you would like a slot we have made it easier for this event....just post your request here with two songs you would like to perform/jam and what type of collaboration you would like? Hope to see you perform at this fun event!
