Accounts of Elasticsearch in production

This is the very first Elasticsearch Boston meeting, so we'll just get started with sharing how two local companies have been using Elasticsearch so far in production. One of the companies (Traackr) just started using it, the other (Sonian) has been running on it for over a year and a half. This will hopefully give newcomers an idea of what it's like to work with Elasticsearch and what it can really do; for experienced folks, we'd love to compare notes. After this, the group will help decide what upcoming meetups should look like. So come over, kick back and hang with us. Food and refreshments will be provided.

George Stathis, VP Engineering @ Traackr will present:

Elasticsearch Powering "PeopleSearch"

Traackr's A-List enables customers to find the influencers most relevant to their business and engage them to help promote their products. By tracking, storing and indexing influencers' online content, Traackr is able to combine social media and web metrics with full-text search and offer customers a list of people that goes beyond mere online popularity: the people are actually relevant. Big data NoSQL solutions are great but only a search engine can truly deliver these types of answers. Luckily, Elasticsearch is a search engine that can handle big data! But how does Traackr go from searching content (i.e. posts) to answering people? Come and find out.

Igor Motov, Principal Software Engineer @ Sonian Inc. will present:

Sonian Inc. is using elasticasearch to search through billions of records in tens of thousands of indices with entire infrastructure running "in the cloud". In this talk we will give a brief overview of the infrastructure and plugins that help Sonian to scale. We will also share some of the best practices that we follow and lessons that we have learned in the last year and a half.

Thanks to everyone that came to tonight's meetup and thanks to Sonian for sponsoring the food. It was great meeting folks in person. Some great questions were asked and I hope that we were able to answer them to your satisfaction. It's exciting to see so much interest in Elasticsearch. Let's keep it going. As promised, here are the slides from Traackr's presentation: . Igor will be posting the ones from Sonian separately. Stay tuned for the next meetup announcement. We are looking for folks that want to share their own Elasticsearch stories. Alex Lambert from has already thrown down the gauntlet and stepped up, so let see who else is up for it!

Best of luck with your first meeting. It looks like it will be a good one. Sadly, I will be out of town for it, but I look forward to the next meeting!

Thanks Miryon, that's really great of you guys. We are right in the middle of setting things up with the NERD but if that doesn't pan out, we'd love to take you up on your offer.

Folks, we are working on nailing down the exact date and venue right now but expect this first meeting to most probably be at the Microsoft NERD Center in Cambridge some time in early October.
