San Diego Kilowatt Hour: E-Bike Breakfast at the Waffle Spot

Due to an icky turn in the weather and wet roads everywhere, we may have to postpone the ride portion of the event until next month. However, those who wish may still enjoy breakfast at the Waffle Spot from 10-11 a.m. at a 20% discount. Hey, we we can meet and greet and talk about our E-bikes ... and ride some if the weather improves!

Please stay tuned for a future event listing for the February ride.

Thanks, Steve

The San Diego Kilowatt Hour was started in 2011 -- based on a model established in Vancouver, Canada -- as a way for E-bike owners and enthusiasts to meet and ride on a regular basis.

An inaugural San Diego Kilowatt Hour ride was held on November 20, 2011 (http://www.meetup.com/san-diego-energizers/events/39366052/)

Look forward to more San Diego Kilowatt Hour rides in 2013.

What a fun ride. Thanks Steve for organizing a great meetup! I'm looking forward to next month.

For anyone interested in where I learned all the DYI building information, it was at the www.endless-sphere.com forums. My username over there is MD.

For those who came on the ride yesterday and those interested in future San Diego Kilowatt Hour E-bike rides, I've created a Facebook Group for the San Diego Kilowatt Hour. You are invited to join it. Future ride notices will be posted there (as well as here), and it's a good forum to meet and converse with other E-bikers, post photos, and keep tabs on what's going on in the San Diego E-bike scene. Some of us are already in the group. Here's the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/136597886498298/

I'll meet you when you get out of the waffle house and are coming out from that bridge over to Camino Del Rio North.
I have to work on a battery cell group since the trip is a bit more lengthy.

OB is sunny and clear right now, radar shows a few small patches out at sea that will likely miss OB area. I'm going for it.

Looks like it's clearing up folks!

7:20 Poway, light mist with rain forecast 1:00 PM in SD. Assuming that ride will be called due to rain. Still looking forward to meeting the e-riders on the next trip. Jan 13th weather is forecast to be nice with highs in the mid 60s. Anyone interested in a disorganized ride from 4S ranch along 56 bike path to Torrey Pines and back?

Thanks for the update Allan. We're riding if the sun's shining! Breakfast first at 10 at Waffle Spot, and we'll see how things look.

Waffles sounds good! Rain or not I will be there to meet with others with ebikes with me. Who knows, we could get lucky!

I'm in OB and could hear the wet roads when cars drove by. I just looked at the hourly forecast, says 100% precip between 10am and 4pm with chance of thunderstorms. Sounds like it'll be off, but I'll make it to the waffle house still as Steve suggested.

Allan, Pat, and Bob: Chris is in need of an E-bike for tomorrow. Can one of you let us know if you can make one available to him? Thanks!

      Hi,

I wanted to let you know that I am not going to be able to make it to tomorrow's ride. My babysitter canceled on me due to the flu and so far I haven't been able to find a replacement. I am so bummed. I really was looking forward to meeting everybody and going for the ride. I hope everyone has a great time and have a waffle for me. I all ready have the first Sunday in February on my calendar. Leanne

Steve, It's raining cats and dogs up here in north county...I'm going to regretfully bow-out for today's ride as I wouldn't want my daughter to become ill. Thank you so very much for all you've done to organisation this ride-where did this weather come from!

      January 6, 2013

Just checked the weather forecast for tomorrow. Yikes! Please note that if it is raining or if there is imminent threat of rain tomorrow, we will need to postpone the ride portion of the event until next month. However, those who wish may still enjoy breakfast from 10-11 a.m. at a 20% discount, and we can at least meet and greet and talk about E-bikes. Please check this space tomorrow by 9 a.m. for any updates and/or possible cancellation notice for the ride portion. Thanks, Steve

Hi Guys, as I mentioned earlier, I will be bringing a trailer with about 5 extra ebikes to lend to those that wanted to ride but do not have an ebike. So far, Jenna requested for one so I have 4 more available. Please let me know if there are others that would need them. I am looking forward to meeting you all and having a wonderful day.

So far, I have 1 more ebike available but it is a 24in. Anybody over 16 is welcome to it.

      January 5, 2013

    • Steve

Allan, please hold that 24-inch bike for Chris. Chris, that is your bike to use. :)

Thank you Steve. Is the Feb. ride planned yet?

    January 5, 2013

  • Stephanie

Hello everyone! I've been planning on attending since the ride was posted. I'm so disappointed I won't be able to ride as I injured my leg at Yosemite
over the holidays. When is our next ride?
    Stephanie

    January 5, 2013

    • Steve

Stephanie sorry to hear about your leg. Get better! I plan to organize a ride like this every month, the first Sunday of every month. Stay tuned.

Hello everyone. I have great news. Thanks to a contact I have at the Waffle Spot, they will be giving 20% off of breakfast orders for EVERYONE in our group on Sunday. Also we will have a separate seating area so we can sit all together. Here is the menu for the Waffle Spot if you want to start thinking about what you'd like to have: http://kingsinnsandiego.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/WS_menu.pdf

    Hi Chris
I have no problem with loaning out e-bikes for the meet however, the law says that one should be 16 or over for e-bikes. Helmets are also mandatory for anyone riding an e-bike.

Sunday Jan 16th looks like a fun ride...I'll in all probability be there. Looking forward to meeting other SD EBike peep's.

    1 · December 14, 2012

    • Steve

Bob, please note the ride is Sunday, January 6, not the 16th. Hope you can make it!

      January 1, 2013

  • Steve

Also please bring water in case you get thirsty on the ride ... and a camera for pictures!

    December 30, 2012

  • Steve

Allan that would be great if you can bring extra E-bikes. So far I see that Jenna is in need of one to borrow. Others, please indicate if you need to borrow an E-bike for this ride.

Leanne and others, please bring a bicycle helmet, bike gloves, some money for breakfast at the Waffle Spot and a snack in OB, and dress warmly and in layers.

    See everyone on the 6th!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
