Yule Ritual & Potluck Feast

Join Pagan Unity to celebrate Yuletime and the Winter Solstice; the longest night of the year with a ritual and potluck feast. We'll be decorating our altar and ritual space with the light of candles, candles, candles!! Everyone will be invited to light a candle symbolizing what they will bring into the light by the next Solstice. We will tell the story of the new-born Oak King and bid farewell to the old Holly King while the Maiden, Mother and Crone will bless and light the Yule Log! Feel free to wear something flowing and if you have any drums or jingle bells please bring those along too!! We traditionally do a lot of singing at this ritual, so come prepared for alternative lyrics to some of your favorite Christmas Carols ;)

SILENT NIGHT, SOLSTICE NIGHT

Silent night, Solstice Night

Silver moon shining bright

Snowfall blankets the slumbering Earth

Yule fires welcome the Sun's rebirth

Hark, the Light is reborn

Hark, the Light is reborn

Silent night, Solstice Night

Earth lies still, dreams shine bright

Flesh and Spirit meet in the dark

Spiraling deep to touch the spark

Heal in Winter's deep sleep

Heal in Winter's deep sleep

biggrin

Amazingly, the Gingerbread House was the only dessert item. We had a very healthy spread overall. Thanks to everyone for the delicious potluck buffet; hmmmmm... homemade cornbread, cucumber appetizers, fruit and veggies, vegetarian chili with the aldente beans (te he).

I am so disappointed, but I am not going to be able to make it tonight. Several unforeseen circumstances have arisen, and I need to be home tonight. I wish you all a blessed Yule, and a healthy, happy new year...

My first Yule Celebration with Pagan Unity. It was joyful and well led by Sandy and Andrew. I had a very merry time! Ritual, food, and company was perfect. My whole family loved it.

OH HOLY NIGHT Oh Holy Night!
The stars shine in their brightness.
It is the night of the Sun Child's rebirth.
Long lay the world in growing cold and darkness
'Til He appeared, casting light o'er the earth.

A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
All nature sings! Oh raise your joyous voices!
Oh night divine! This night the Sun’s reborn!
Oh night divine! Oh night, oh night divine!

They are saying 8 inches on the News, will there be a place to park? The snow will just be tapering off about the time we are to start.

    December 20, 2013

    • Sandy R.

We were checking things out too and we got that it would be tapering off around Noon. The church's lot should already have been plowed for the Sunday service, so I think we'll be OK on that score.

Everyone should definitely check Meetup before they head out for any last minute bulletins!

    DANCING IN A WICCAN WONDERLAND

    Pagans sing, are you listenin’
    Altar's set, candles glisten,
    It's a Magickal night, we're having tonight,
    Dancing in a Wiccan Wonderland

    Chorus:
In a Circle we can light a Yule Fire,
And await the rising of the Sun,
It's the Great Wheel turning for the New Year,
Loaded with abundance and great fun.

    Blades held high, censer smoking,
    God and Goddess, we're invoking,
Through Elements Five, we celebrate life,
    Dancing in a Wiccan Wonderland,

Queen of Heaven, is in Her place,
Triple Goddess, now the Crone Face,
Above and Below, She's the Goddess we know,
    Dancing in a Wiccan Wonderland

Now the God, is our Provider,
    Supplying game for our Fire,
Above and Below, He's the Horned One we Know,
    Dancing in a Wiccan Wonderland

    Later on, by the fire,
    Cone of Power, gettin' higher
    It's a Magickal Night we're having tonight,
    Dancing in a Wiccan Wonderland

    SHARE THE LIGHT
    Tune: The First Noel

On this Winter holiday, let us stop and recall
That this season is holy to one and to all.
Unto some a Son is born, unto us comes the Sun,
And we know, if they don't, that all paths are one.

    Chorus:
Share the light, share the light!
Share the light, share the Light!
All paths are one on this holy night!

    Be it Chanukah or Yule,
    Christmas time or Solstice night,
    All celebrate the eternal light.
    Lighted tree or burning log,
    Or eight candle flames.
All gods are one god, whatever their names.

I hate to bring up bad news, but has anyone looked at the astrology for the upcoming holidays. OMG, DUCK, COVER and don't you dare be doing any drinking and driving. Do the charts. Nothing but Squares and Oppositions. Both New Years and Christmas. EEEEEK!!!!, just remember though, even this will pass, but dam! Do look out. Fore warned is fore armed. Astrological comments anyone???

The question of Mercury Retrograde came up in some of the postings and I found a great article about it by an Astrologer. So, I wanted to share it: http://www.elephantjournal.com/2013/11/hurray-mercury-retrograde-is-over-10-things-to-do-immediately/

Mercury went direct on Nov 10th... it's been retrograde since Oct 21st.

I'll tell you something special about Andrew and I. Our relationship began when we attended the same Winter Solstice ritual in Des Plaines back in 2001. It was the first ritual I attended after I left the Temple of the Four Winds. If I had stayed with the Temple, we wouldn't have met. Guided by the Goddess again...

I, too, am really looking forward to this. I can only imagine how welcoming the UUCE building is when it is decked out in the seasonal finery. Winter solstice has always held special meaning for me, and I am glad to welcome the light back in the company of new friends. I would like to bring some warm spiced cider for the feast...
