Fantasy writer Neil Gaiman is coming to Ely, in association with Topping and Co. bookshop, to celebrate the publication of his new book, 'The Ocean at the End of the Lane'. Magical, strange and very readable, Gaiman is known for books such as Coraline and Stardust (both made into movies), has co-written with the likes of Terry Pratchett and Michael Reaves, and has also written a number of graphic novels, largely working with illustrator Dave McKean.
On Amazon, the following description of the new book is given: "It began for our narrator forty years ago when the family lodger stole their car and committed suicide in it, stirring up ancient powers best left undisturbed. Dark creatures from beyond the world are on the loose, and it will take everything our narrator has just to stay alive: there is primal horror here, and menace unleashed - within his family and from the forces that have gathered to destroy it.
His only defence is three women, on a farm at the end of the lane. The youngest of them claims that her duckpond is ocean. The oldest can remember the Big Bang."
Hugely popular author, so probably an idea to book in advance, tickets can be be purchased from Topping and Co book shop on Ely High Street or at www.toppingbooks.co.uk. Tickets are £10 and are valid for the £10 off the purchase of the new book, and a glass of wine! Neil will sign copies of his new book, plus one other most loved book, on the night. Arrive 6.45pm for 7.30pm start.
Sure to be an evening to remember!
