September: Stefan Penner on "Idiomatic Ember"

Stefan Penner is a Canadian developer based in New York, New York. He is a hacker at Qlabs and an active community member. He also contributes to many open source projects, such as Ruby on Rails, Ember.js, and some of his own.

In addition to Stefan's talk, we are planning to have a few lightning talks:

  • Dan Sudol's contrasting experiences with Backbone and Ember
  • Jorge Davila on first steps in learning Ember
  • Luke Melia on async routing and deep linking with the Ember router
  • Alexander Matchneer about a heavily animated Ember site for kids and approaches to handle all sorts of different browser sizes and keep things smooth.

Great set of lightning talks and main talk last night. Several times people mentioned 'injectors'. Was this referring to using dependency injection with the Ember classes?

The idea is to use Ember.Application.registerInjection() as a way to bind components together when the application is initialized. This technique is used by ember itself to create controller instances. Docs on this are still evolving, but you can get a sense of how to do it here: https://github.com/emb...

Luke/Michael - thanks for the reference and clearing that up for me. That makes sense.

Huge thanks to all of our excellent speakers, and to everyone for coming out and continuing to grow the Ember community in NYC! I've posted the slides from my lightning talk here: http://www.lukemelia.com/blog/archives/2012/09/18/async-routing-in-ember-js/

Stefan is a very fun and entertaining speaker. He had my attention the entire time and helped me learn a few new things about Ember.js app design.

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow night! I created a Yapp for the event: Install link: http://my.yapp.us/EMBER (It's totally meta because it is written in Ember, too!)

Luke, seems like we're already packed with lightning talks, but I definitely wanted to present something if you think you can fit in one more.

Sounds great. Looking forward to hear how you architected it! Plan on a 5-7 minute talk.
