[JOB] Lead Engineer for Gaming/Advertising Platform

Hi Ember.JSers,

Unlockable is looking for a lead Ruby on Rails engineer to turn commercials into games. I know this isn't a RoR list, but I figure people interested in next-gen JS frameworks are more likely than most to also be excellent Rails developers (plus there will be plenty of opportunity for working in the JS framework of your choice).

Who We Are

Unlockable turns commercials into games you play to unlock web content for free. Our product is an SDK that publishers of digital content (think Hulu, Netflix, Zynga, NYTimes, etc.) can install to make their paid content available free with engagement advertising. Brands get guaranteed engagements on the content they've already made, publishers get drop-in premium ad revenue, and players get a free and fun way to access content they'd otherwise have to pay for. We believe we can make the economics work for a generation of developers offering digital content and services.

Why Us

We the cofounders have been plugged into advertising and tech for our entire careers, both creative and data analytics. Though not developers ourselves, we have managed product development for large brands through our agencies. We've worked extensively with developers and as a result have clear priorities and deliverables (no moving targets) and realistic expectations. We have taken the Unlockable product through several iterations and many rounds of user testing, on which we're now getting very encouraging results. Along the way we've built a team that includes front end development and design with direct game experience, as well as a stable of top industry advisors (that actually take our calls, not just names in a PowerPoint). Perhaps most importantly, we have business development leads with one of the largest app developers in the country, as well as a Fortune 500 company, at both of which we've met multiple times with C-level executives who have expressed serious interest.

Our Status and Strategy

We've bootstrapped through successful proof of concept, and now we're ready for head-down development through to our beta launch. Between our own experience and the input from our advisors, we have enough of an architectural vision to know whom we're looking for, but with enough open questions that there's a lot of room for creativity. Once we have the right person in place, we have angel investors ready to give us the runway to take us through launch.

The Candidate We're Looking For

This is a paid position (market rate by experience) for building a scalable technology platform from the ground up. The role is for the lead developer of a pre-seed startup with the growth potential of becoming the CTO. You will be directly responsible for the design and architecture of both our software and hardware infrastructure. And of course, you should be self-motivated, comfortable making decisions and have the ability to communicate those decision to the rest of the team. You'll be working directly with the cofounders, as well as front end designers and developers, so you'll be heavily involved in company leadership and strategy.

BS or MS in Computer Science or related field (or 5+ years experience)

Comfortable with AJAX, JavaScript and jQuery with strong opinions on javascript frameworks

3+ years rails experience

1+ years as a technical lead or higher

Experience with modern development environments (AWS/cloud servers, Git, TDD, etc)

Bonus points:

For previous entreprenuers
