Wordpress 101: How to get started with your WordPress website

Alright y'all! The long awaited 101 meetup has finally been scheduled! If you can't make it, please comment below with dates/times/suggestions and we'll try to accommodate everyone's schedule for the next one.

This WordPress 101 will be the first in a series of meetups that addresses everything that you need to know to get started with a WordPress website.

A few topics we'll cover:
- What is the difference between and and which one should I use?
- Installing WordPress - Lisa will do a demo and is making a handy worksheet!
- Finding a theme from a trusted theme foundry, how to avoid 'bad' themes and how to install them
- How to create pages and posts
- And anything else you have a question about!

Please comment below with specific questions and we'll answer them at the meetup.

If you already have a site set up, bring your laptop and questions to the meetup and we'll do our best to help you out.

If you are ready to get a site up and running, go ahead and purchase a domain and hosting account. There's lots of great providers to choose from. I (Kelly) am currently using Site Ground hosting which is WordPress friendly and has great support. If you sign up for hosting with them, it looks like you get a domain for free. Just purchase those 2 items (a domain and a hosting account) from the provider(s) of your choice and we'll discuss how to get your site up and running at our Meetup.

Sad to report we had really low turnout for this meetup. We'll try again sometime soon. Thank you to Kelly, Jared and Ginger who were able to be there.

What are the perimeters for a location? Is there opposition to having a meeting in Navarre or Pensacola?

Ginger, any member can create a meetup and the meetup can be in a location of the creator's choice. The group has a large number of Pensacola/Gulf Breeze members.

Ginger - Just to piggyback on what Lisa said - a meetup in pensacola/navarre is a great idea. Message me and I'll help you organize it. I bet you'll get a lot of attendees. And don't worry if you don't know anything about WP (yet) - you can just do a meet and greet to find out what kind of WordPress interest there is in your area. It's really easy to do I promise!
