Bi-Weekly Photography Meetup. Theme: Photography in Dangerous Places

We would like to thank our new hosts, The Shelter, for offering us place to hold our biweekly meetings. The Shelter is located in Al Quoz's Alserkal Avenue, where parking is free. If you're making your way there by public transport, you can take bus 12 from the First Gulf Bank station.

Is this your first time at one of our biweekly events? Welcome - it's free of charge! For everyone else, we suggest donating a minimum of AED 20 to cover club costs.

Agenda:

19:00 Announcements and introduction

19:15 Discussion Topic: Photography in Dangerous Places (Rod Jackson)

In his presentation, Rod will ask how dangerous is actually dangerous. He will also talk about winning friends in dangerous places without speaking the native language, and why it’s worth it.
Rod is a fine artist, photographer, and poet who found his love for photography as a teenager and has been shooting since high school. Everything he paints, shoots, or writes has to do with passion and his love of art. His artistic influences include Gordon Parks, Jerry Eulesmann, Ann Griffiths Belt, Robert Davies, Robert Mapplethorpe and Lee Miller. You can see more of his work at his website.

20:00 Break

20:15 Member showcase (C Sabathne)
For this section, members bring show us 10 to 12 of their best shots, and answer questions about them. Want to try your hand at this in the future? Talk to an organizer.

20:30 The Tuesday tip
Ashraf Jandali dispenses advice on how to improve your photographs.

20:45 Critique
Do you feel something is off with a picture you took, even though you can't tell what? Bring along the image, and our members will give you their suggestions on what you can improve. Constructive criticism is one of the best ways of improving your work!

21:00 Edit Competition
You can get the files in JPG and RAW from this link.

You can do anything you'd like to modify the image, once it is uploaded here. Bring your submission on a USB flash drive - sorry, no email entries. We all vote on who has done the best job, and the winner gets a prize.

Yesterdays meetup reiterated the philosophy of photography - your photographs need to tell a story (the emotional angle) - and hats off to Rod and also to Jude. 1 photograph of Jude's brought about an entire conversation.
Also wish C the very best for his future!

It was good, a different aspect of photography where the story matters more then the quality of the photographs (Rod's Presentation) , C's Showcase was good, specially the HDR stuff. Ashraf dear! thx for all the great tricks about PS. We want more :D

Same here, I liked Rod's presentation simply because he dared to take beyond the norms and showed us that photography is not always technical...

      C as usual was entertaining...

Knowing Ashraf and his knowledge on PS... he was just getting warmed up... watchout and wait for his full post processing training... guaranteed he will cause a riot with his information...

if you are driving from Dubai towards Jebel Ali, then exit at the 3rd interchange towards al quoz (manara road). Drive to the end of the road and take a right. Drive down the road and at the next signal, on your right, you will see Al Serkal Avenue. Drive into the gate and follow the road. hope to see u there.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
