Concepts of Photography: Lines

Our second look into the elements of design will examine lines. These can be long or short, straight or curved, horizontal, vertical, or diagonal. Lines can create patterns or stand by themselves, and be solid, dashed, thick, thin, or of variable width. During this meetup, we would like you to search for the lines around you, even in places you wouldn't otherwise think to look. Then take pictures of them. Simple as that. To learn more about lines and see a few examples of shots where lines are prominent, check out this link.

We will meet inside the Financial Centre station at street level. We will gather near the bottom of escalators, on the same side of Sheikh Zayed Road as the train line. Coming by car? There is usually plenty of parking towards the Dusit Thani hotel, but give yourself a few minutes to walk over. If you need help finding us, call the EPyC hotline on 052 9288432.

Before we set out, your hosts will say a few words, and then you will be free to wander around, either by yourself with them. The sun will set at 6:02 PM, so if you want to stay out for a long time, consider carrying a tripod.

When you are finished, upload your best work here for critique; post images of different subjects to make your work interesting to others. Please only post images where lines are prominent. We strongly encourage each of you to critique other people's work by first telling us what you like about it, and then what you think could be improved. Remember, critiques are meant to help us improve our skills, so don't take any criticisms personally.

Thank you organizers for today's photowalk. In response to Nitin's request about stating pros and cons, here goes:
pros: love the concept.... helped me a lot in my quest to learn to see...well organized and the description and directions for the events were thorough.. Cons: HOT HOT HOT.... perhaps taking the weather into consideration would make the trip more enjoyable...I mean a lot of lines can be found at the mall, right ? but then again, I know the hard work the organizers put into planning the events, and I am sure they try to take all aspects into account.... In closing.. organizers, your efforts are much much appreciated,

This must be one of the better event albums we've created! If you haven't already done so, please take the time to go through everyone's shots and tell people what you liked in them, and what you thought could use improvement. Critiques help us all learn to become better photographers.

We will be posting the next photowalk in this series on the main page shortly, so stay tuned!

After seeing all these pics, I have definitely made up my mind of doing a UAE tour with my camera (planning to buy a more sophisticated one). I always sought natural beauty and never much focus on man-made structures. But thanks to EPyC, I have come to admire the human artwork and would like to explore more. A big thanks to the organizers of EPyC.

It was nice to meet all the people. We never thought about LINES but yesterday when I move into search there was nothing where lines are not existing. As without oxygen life cannot be imagine likewise without
lines no design or photograph could be imagine.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
