Stuff happens. So check this page regularly to see if the event details have been revised, or if you need to update your RSVP. One thing hasn't changed though: it's still just AED 20 if you want to join us on the evening. With that out of the way, here's what we currently have slated:
Discussion Topic: Underwater Photography (TJ Nuckolls)
Diving and photography are two passions of EPyC member TJ Nuckolls, so it's only natural that he would combine the two. At this meetup, he'll show us the gear that's needed for diving, talk about ways to safely carry a camera underwater, and discuss subjects like how light works at various depths, natural light vs. strobes, and macro vs. wide angle photography underwater. He'll also walk us through a few levels of cameras and housing, from point-and-shoots to SLRs, and the benefits and drawbacks of each type. Along the way, he will pass on contact information to help you get started with both diving and underwater photography, should you wish to try all of this out for yourself.
Member showcase (Maria Lecanda)
For this section, members show us 10 to 12 of their best shots, and answer questions about them. Want to try your hand at this in the future? Talk to an organizer.
The Tuesday tip (Ashraf Jandali)
Want advice on how to improve your photographs? Ashraf's here to help.
Photo Competition (Theme: Portraits)
Please send us two of your images by email ([masked]) by 5 PM on the day of the event, or bring your photos to the event on a USB key. To make our lives easier, please rename the files so that they have your name in them, e.g. Ahmed1.JPG and Ahmed2.JPG. We all vote on who has done the best job, and the winner gets a prize. Please note that if you don't show up, or pass your photos to the organizers on time, your shots will not be eligible for a prize. Please remember that your choice of photos is your own responsibility, and be sure to submit photos that will not offend others in some way.
We will be meeting in Studio Attitude in Al Quoz, in the same series of warehouses as Botanica. If you need help figuring out how to get there, check out the location map, or make use of the GPS coordinates [masked],[masked]). More information on the venue can be found on their site or at 04 3384114.
We also have YouTube videos showing you how to get there from Sheikh Zayed Road, with detailed text directions posted underneath. This one shows the way if you are coming from the direction of the World Trade Centre and Dubai Mall, and this one depicts the way from the direction of Abu Dhabi, the marina, and Al Barsha.
