***Keep an eye on the time, as this may be adjusted***
There's a lot more to the UAE than skyscrapers, and we'd like to help you find some of it. Join us for a trip to Wadi Shawkah, where you can watch the sun come up over fresh air, rock cliffs, and pools of water.
You may also want to stop on the way back to get shots of the Shawkah Dam and the scenic road out.
We will assemble between 4:00AM and 5:00 AM at the Emarat on Maliha Road and then drive for about an hour to get to the outside of the Wadi. You don't need an SUV to get to Wadi Shawkah. Nevertheless, the last 3 km of the journey is on an unpaved road to get to the wadi entrance, and will require a vehicle with some ground clearance, so don't bring a sports car.
Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, as we will have to walk a little (2 km) to destination inside the wadi. If you plan to hike further in (optional), some climbing will be required, so choose shoes with a good grip, and don't bring along too much gear.
Since we will be arriving before daybreak, you may want to bring a torch to light your path, and a tripod (with backstrap) to shoot in low light. There will be no washrooms, shops or garbage cans at this location, so plan accordingly. Carry in whatever food or drink you think you will need, but make sure you take out your trash and dispose of it later.
If you want or can offer a ride, tell us in the comments where you are coming from, and what your contact number is. And as usual, if you need help finding us on the day of the event, call the EPyC hotline [masked]).
Please note that for safety reasons, this event may be called off in the event of bad weather. The photographers behind the best shots taken at this event and the previous week's trip to Ras al Khaimah are eligible for tickets to Joe McNally's seminar, Small Lights Made Simple, as well as GPP PhotoFriday.
