I need help from a Canonite...

Off camera speedlite flash, fired from the pop up camera flash, works seamlessly in TTL mode, but i want to fire the speedlite flash without TTL (with full manual control over the speedlight flash), using a pop up camera flash...

Is it possible, if yes, how can it be done?

I am using a Canon 7d and Ex 430 ex II speedlite

    Regards

Jason, that is brilliant! Absolutely brilliant...! Let's see what the light looks like, take a picture of something... Get the softbox nice and close and just out of frame...

    Jason, which one?

    August 17, 2012

    • Jason

Hi Andy. I made it myself, using cardboard, and other household stuff. :)

  • Jason

I now have my first soft box... i made it ... :)

Ok. As promised here is a fairly simple trick, that we mentioned. Something to play with. Don't dig in too far, get some images out first, then start testing why...

Here is the cheap camera and optical trigerred flash video... just to prove you don't need expensive toys... (most of hte time...)

And Zack's take on the experience... Kai @ DigitalRev is just a great presenter... lots of very useful information there...

Zack is a great photographer, and a strong proponent of single light images...

    Great fun...

Ok. We promised some video links to support the content. Here is the Red Hallway Trick by Gary Fong. Try not to analyse too much what is going on... just get some images out, and then start experimenting with different colours, materials, etc... you might be quite surprised. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tb0y0RXe_I

Remember that you need to create a custom white balance (the only bit you need to dig into your camera manual... Letss see what you guys can do...?

Hello everybody. Thanks for a great meetup and thanks to the presenters for their efforts, nicely done.
I just wanted to post this link on how I managed to do the photo edit comp for anyone that's interested.

It's called the "DAGUERREOTYPE" and I literally learned how to do it 2 days ago from this video:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igvTSKd3zcE
Note that you need Photoshop for this but it's not hard, takes maybe 5-10 mins. Thanks

Please don't forget to add comments here, on what we need to improve on, what we need to do more on, and where you would like to explore more... Thank you all for a fantastic evening...

If novices could get to share their work and get a feedback from the group that would really help...

Also, since we had all the fancy lighting and setup in place, i think a big wide group picture at the end of the meet, bringing all the characters on a single canvas would have added a great dimension to the meet.

Dear All - everyone in the meet, presenters and especially the ones in the smoking corner.

It was a great meeting. Good all round fun.

The presentations were really good... I appreciate the amount of modesty contributed by every presenter, reiterating how to approach photography in a simple and fun way without using expensive equipment.

I truly feel inspired and would like to offer my services to the group. If there is any way i can contribute to the group, please let me know, i would love to help in anyway i can...
