Walk down Sheikh Zayed Road

I'm sure we all go to and through SZR. But when was the last time you walked down Dubai's main boulevard looking for photo opportunities, instead of running to a meeting? Come along for the chance to try your hand at street photography (including pictures of people), plant macros, traffic trails, shop windows, and of course shots of the buildings that make up the skyline. One of the best things about photo walks is finding out how different people look at the same spaces!

We can meet in front of the Fairmont. If you're using the metro, go to the World Trade Center station on the red line and cross the highway. If you're driving, there's usually space near the H Hotel (formerly the Monarch), across the street from the Trade Center. Parking is free on Fridays.

My plan is to start walking south - in the direction of the Crowne Plaza and Shangri La - at 5:40. If you're running late, just walk that way until you see us. The end time is only a suggestion. Whenever you get tired, you can take the metro home or to your car.

A tripod will be handy if you plan to keep shooting well after sunset (6:17 PM). I'd also recommend bringing along water.

I'm glad you enjoyed yourself; hopefully we'll get a chance to talk the next time we're both at a meetup. But in the meanwhile, thanks for talking to the organizers of Gulf Bike Week - I think a lot of people are going to have fun there!

Carla: Good to see you've signed up for events so quickly after running into us!

I can give my phone number out at Tuesday's biweekly meeting so that I don't have to post it publicly. I will be able to check the meetup page on the go, so anyone running late on the day can also contact me that way.

@Carla. Tripod is the most essential accessory in a camera... Tripod can make a big difference, and buying a light tripod and using a heavy camera, will not help the cause... There are cheap tripods in the market, but if it cannot keep your camera stable, it is like not using a tripod and it is a waste of even the little money that you would have put in a tripod. If you are low on budget, i suggest, you buy a used tripod which can keep your camera stable.

@carla, your camera will weigh atleast 1 kg with a lens. And in future if you plan to go for a long lens, even a 70 - 200 mm lens, it will take your camera easily past the 2 kg mark. Hence pick a tripod that is designed to hold atleast 3 kgs or more. Holding 2 kgs at 1.2 meter height, requires sturdy and wide legs to keep the camera stable. For landscape and macro photography a good heavy duty tripod is important, and since you like taking night shots... a good tripod is as important as your lens... :)
