Wildwood Trail Thru Hike

Where: Wildwood Trail
When: Saturday, Oct 26, 2013

Distance: 31 miles

This is NOT an easy hike! The pace will probably average around 3.0 mph but I will strive for a pace of 3.5 mph throughout the hike. Breaks will be minimal as it is my hope to finish by sunset which is scheduled for 6:19 pm that day.

It is my expectation that anbody that RSVP's for this hike is willing to hike the entire distance within the pace and time frame given which is fairly moderate for anybody who would actually consider doing a hike of this insane length. Obviously, we all hike at different speeds and we are all probably pretty comfortable in Forest Park so it isn't necessary that we remain tightly bunched during the hike but it is important that you be willing to regroup at designated points along the trail.

We will meet at World Forestry Center which is near the beginning of the Wildwood Trail. We'll then stay on the trail for the 31 miles to the end of the trail on Newberry Rd, then walk down to Hwy 30 to catch a return bus to town, then MAX it back to the starting point.

Bring bus fare, raingear, several layers of clothing than can be peeled off as necessary, sturdy boots/shoes, working flashlights or headlamps (I recommend bringing 2), and plenty of food and fluids to sustain you through the hike. Things like extra socks and hiking poles are optional but can sometimes put a smile back on your face so come prepared.

I can't feel my legs. Is that a bad sign?

Thanks, Gene! My pace would have made you crazy. I was merely trudging by the end of the hike. Those last few miles seemed like they took forever!
