Forest Park All Trails Challenge #3

WHEN: Thursday, July 3, 2014
TIME: 10:30 am
WHERE: Firelane 15 Trailhead on Skyline Blvd
TOTAL MILES: 6.64 miles
ELEVATION GAIN: ~ 1,936 ft
PACE:[masked] mph
PERMITS: None required

Several of us have goals this year of completing the ALL TRAILS CHALLENGE which means we will be hiking all 80 miles of trails in Forest Park. I have designed 14 hikes that, once completed, accomplish that goal.

My intent is to schedule these hikes, in sequence, over the next 14 Tuesdays with the exception of a week in August when I'm on vacation.

We will be hiking Firelane 15, Firelane 12, the BPA Road, Kielhorn Meadow, and the Wildwood Trail.

This is Portland so expect rain and mud and an occasional flooded creek crossing. Wear waterproof or water resistant hiking boots and bring your trekking poles. Wear lots of adjustable layers as you'll be hot on the way up and cold on the way down. Bring a lunch or snacks and plenty of fluids.

To reach the trailhead, drive northwest along NW Skyline Blvd 6.3 miles from the intersection of Skyline Blvd and NW Cornell Rd. Parking alongside Skyline Blvd is limited but there is a street directly across from the trailhead (Skyview Dr) where on-street parking is an option.. The entrance to Firelane 15 is identifiable by a park gate on the east side of Skyline Blvd beneath two major transmission lines that pass over the road at this point. I've attached a photo of the parking area below so that you know what you are looking for.

Please remember that I'm simply a volunteer inviting others to join in on a hike, I'm not a professional guide. I must insist that everybody be responsible for their own safety and well-being.

I've changed my mind. Hubby and I are going to bicycle to Blues Festival and hang around outside the fence and listen as best we can. I also want to get a couple of new bowls -- money goes to feed homeless. I hope the biking will give me as good a workout as #3 would have.
