develop peace and transform negative aspects of being and thinking
Dear Alyssa, I see your questions about your children. The Aug 31 evening is Zikr, a Sufi practice that includes periods of silent meditation, breath work, repetition of sacred names, along with the standing movement practices. Our experience is that children come, and they are welcome to, but few actually participate. If they are quiet during meditations, or you can take them to other rooms if they want to play, that can work. Our Second Saturday Dances are just dancing, better for kids.
One note, seeing that you are involved with Atheism: We do invoke innumerable names of "God" from all of the world's major spiritual traditions in our Dances. I have great respect for atheism, as does the history of our tradition; atheists, agnostics, and deeply devoted spiritual and religious people all Dance together in our practice. As long as all respect each others' ways of seeing the world, our collective existence, then there is peace. Just wanted to let you know more about what we do!
