The Chippewa Creek Trail is one of the most picturesque and adventuresome in the local area. Downstream from the Chippewa Creek George Scenic Overlook the creek has sculpted a path through the rocks surrounding it. On a good day, that's the very path we'll take.
Total distance is expected to be around 3 to 5 miles.
Weather should be around 40F. There's a chance of some rain earlier in the morning, which may impact the path we choose (as rocks can get slippery when wet).
Where to meet
The trailhead is located at the parking lot for the overlook, at the intersection of Chippewa Rd and Chippewa Creek Drive. Should the lot be full, you can park at the Brecksville Shopping Center (a little ways up the hill on 82), the plaza directly across the street, or at the Harriet Keeler Area Parking Lot a little further down Chippewa Creek Drive.
What to expect
This group applies a different ethic to hiking than you may be used to. We adhere to what you might call the "Appalachian Trail Guidelines":
* We recognize that the pace of the group is that of it's slowest member. As such, we'll take periodic breaks, resting until everyone's breathing has returned to normal.
* While we obviously won't all be hiking at the same pace, the person in front should always be within sight of the person in back. In this way, we maintain our cohesion on the trail to ensure nobody gets lost. Trail safety is a primary concern.
* We will stop to gather at all trail branches, so nobody ends up wandering off in the wrong direction.
