Film & Enneagram: The Double

Simon is a timid man, scratching out an isolated existence in an indifferent world. He is overlooked at work, scorned by his mother, and ignored by the woman of his dreams. He feels powerless to change any of these things. The arrival of a new co-worker, James, serves to upset the balance . James is both Simon's exact physical double and his opposite - confident, charismatic and good with women. To Simon's horror, James slowly starts taking over his life.

Director: Richard Ayoade - Cast: Jesse Eisenberg, Mia Wasikowska, Wallace Shawn, Yasmin Paige, Noah Taylor

Ended up seeing the movie with others at a later time. In short summation, I found it to be very much a 4w5/5w4 kind of film in terms of it's themes, atmosphere and humor (amongst other things). I also found it to be a withdrawn type (4,5,9) kind of movie in addition to echoing some universal anxieties we all share on the deep personal and interpersonal level. Great performances!

Pieter, I think the consensus when we met was also that the main character was 4w5 or 5w4. I don't think we settled on one. I hadn't considered that it echoed universal anxieties that we all share, but I can see that maybe it did, such as the desire and thwarted attempts to be perceived accurately and to relate to someone. As a 4w5 myself, I didn't feel like many people shared those intrapersonal and interpersonal issues when I was more fixated in the type.

Very interesting, very funny with some heavy dark pieces. Alot of messages being put forth about being too withdrawn, as well as how our society has bulldozers as well.

I enjoyed this dystopian film, meeting new people, and having a good discussion of the enneatypes. Thanks everyone for coming!
